If checked,you must attach a completed National Register Criteria Statement form. ARCHITECTURAL DESCRIPTION: Describe architectural features. Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community. The house at 18 Hill Street is a broad 2 'h-story gablefront dwelling dating to the early 20"'century. It is sheathed in wood shingles with decorative shingles in a staggered pattern filling the front pediment. The fagade is fronted by a single-story sunporch enclosed by 2 x 4-light casement windows. There are three 2/1 windows on the second floor of the fagade which feature plain surrounds and blinds and are unevenly spaced. The west elevation fenestration includes a single-story,three-sided bay window and a shed dormer spanning the roof. At the rear is a bump-out and deck. HISTORICAL NARRATIVE Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local(or state)history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s)the owners/occupants played within the community. There is no house on this site at the time of the 1906 map. Deeds indicate that in May 1909 Charles W. Swan sold the lot to James J. Bullock(Book 3876,Page 204). Bullock was living here by 1910. Bullock had come to this country about 1899 and in 1905 married Margaret Leary who was born in Ireland. In 1910 the couple was living here with their two sons. He was employed as a gardener. The Bullocks were still living here in 1942. (The house was known as 16 Hill Street for many years.)
