Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community. <br /> The house at 18 Hill Street is a broad 2 'h-story gablefront dwelling dating to the early 20"'century. It is sheathed in wood <br /> shingles with decorative shingles in a staggered pattern filling the front pediment. The fagade is fronted by a single-story <br /> sunporch enclosed by 2 x 4-light casement windows. There are three 2/1 windows on the second floor of the fagade which <br /> feature plain surrounds and blinds and are unevenly spaced. The west elevation fenestration includes a single-story,three-sided <br /> bay window and a shed dormer spanning the roof. At the rear is a bump-out and deck. <br /> HISTORICAL NARRATIVE <br /> Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local(or state)history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s)the <br /> owners/occupants played within the community. <br /> There is no house on this site at the time of the 1906 map. Deeds indicate that in May 1909 Charles W. Swan sold the lot to <br /> James J. Bullock(Book 3876,Page 204). Bullock was living here by 1910. Bullock had come to this country about 1899 and <br /> in 1905 married Margaret Leary who was born in Ireland. In 1910 the couple was living here with their two sons. He was <br /> employed as a gardener. The Bullocks were still living here in 1942.
