Evaluate the characteristics of this building in terms of other buildings within the community. <br /> The house at 38 Colony Road is a simple Four Square-type dwelling displaying a characteristic box-like form, capped by a hip <br /> roof with front hip dormer. The single-story porch spanning the facade is supported by simple posts with a stick balustrade. The <br /> windows now contain modern 1/1 sash. There is a small addition projecting from the east elevation. <br /> HISTORICAL NARRATIVE <br /> Discuss the history of the building. Explain its associations with local(or state)history. Include uses of the building, and the role(s) the <br /> owners/occupants played within the community. <br /> This house dates to the early 20th century. Colony Road was originally known as Francis Street. Deeds indicate that the land <br /> (lots 95-100)was sold by John Baker to Elizabeth Burton,wife of James,in 1911 (Book 3631, Page 165). James and Elizabeth <br /> lived here with their son, James J. Burton,Jr. The elder Burton's occupation is listed as superintendent;the younger worked as <br /> an auto mechanic.
