Historical significance
This house was owned by Christopher S. Ryan in the early 1900s and lived
in by his daughter, Helen, until about 1974. Few interior alterations over the
years; fewer exterior alterations.

HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
This house was constructed in 1901 for Christopher S. Ryan(b.1873), son of John Ryan who lived at 23 Bedford Street.
The Minute-man included this brief mention of its construction on July 27, 1901:
A new house on the left hand side of Bedford street, not far from its junction with Elm avenue, is near
completion. A.C. Washburn being the contractor, but in his absence foreman Timothy O'Connor has the work in
charge. The house is the property of Mr. Christopher S.Ryan, and is to be a commodious and attractive place, in
fact quite an ideal home for a congenial couple.
Christopher Ryan was the manager of Remington Typewriter Co. in Boston. Christopher and Helena Ryan were still
living here in 1932; by 1942 Mrs. Ryan was here alone.
