~ i
HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION
A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission xas held at 8:00 P.M.
on Wednesday, June 24, 1981, in the Selectmen's Meeting Room. Town Office

.Building, Lexington. Present xere Commissioners John R. Packard., Chairman;
S. Lawrence Whipple, Secretary; John L. navies; Ann Wallace; and Associate
Commissioners Linda J. McAuley and Molly Nye.
At 8:05 P.M. the Commission reviexed plans for a sign and a glass door
for Gallery on the Green at 1837 Massachusetts Avenue. The sign resembles
all others on the Giroux Building and the glass door xill prove desirable
additional lighting (xithout advertising) for the Gallery and approval of
both xas so VOTED.
At 8:15 P.M. Attorney Dennis Loxe presented the application of Lexing-
ton Kitchens Unlimited for signs on the store at 1800 Massachusetts Avenue.
The signs, in Hamilton blue with gold leaf lettering,c.are,a handsome addi-
tion to this block of stores, and approval of them xas quickly VOTED, along
with Mr. Whipple's suggestion that the backboard for the signs be painted
buff, instead of white, to match the trim of this store block.
At 8:30 P.M. the Commission considered the request of Floxers at the
Depot (in the Depositors Trust Building, once the railroad station) for a
bright yellox awning, and afree-standing sign with gold leaf lettering on
a black background. The Commission felt that the sign should have two posts
instead of one, and agreed with the applicants that the sign should not
stand too high. Approval of both sign and awning xas accordingly VOTED.
subject to the Board of Appeals' approval of the free-standing sign.
At 9x00 P.M. the Commission considered the second flower shop applica-
tion of the evening, this one from Wayside Florists, Wayne and Joseph Busa.
They xish to erect a royal blue awning over their Waltham Street store-
front. It will have no stripes or lettering, only a xhite flower logo.
Approval of the awning as presented xas VOTED.
At 9x15 P.M. Mr. and Mrs. Weinkopf came to continue their June 10th i,
hearing, this time with more details about the sign for their Viennese
restaurant at 1777 Massachusetts. Approval of the sign as described in more
detail and of relocation of the entrance to left of center was VOTED.
The final hearing of the evening concerned the application of Corydon
Wyman to change the color of asphalt shingles (now green) on the roof of
the house at 1106 Massachusetts Avenue. The Commission rejected a green
blend shingle and VOTED to approve a GAF charcoal grey blend, if the appli-
cants should choose that instead of a replacement with the same green
shingles. The applicant later advised the Chairman that they would use the
charcoal grey blend.
June bills for photography, publication, and clerical services were
VOTED, and the meeting xas adjourned at~9:50 P.M.
--'~l~Ex.~W
`L[~u.Gt.~'
~ S.
