HomeMy WebLinkAbout1980-07-09 ~ 1 HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION A meeting of the Historic Districts Commission was held in the Select- men's Meeting Room, Town Office Building, Lexington, on Wednesday, July 9, 1980. Present were Commissioners John R. Packard, Chairman; Roland B. Greeley; Ann Wallace; S. Lawrence Whipple; and Associate Commissioners Linda J. McAulay and Howard C. Nason. At 8s00 P.M. Mr. Stephen Doran presented the application of Sacred Heart Parish for a new sign, in memory of his father, to be installed 60-70 feet back from the sidewalk at the 21 Follen Road address, and replacing the church's existing sign closer to the street. The Commission was satis- fied with the design and made suggestions, to be incorporated in a certifi- cate, that the sign should be 1 i/2 to 2 1~2 feet above the ground, and that the sign posts should not extend too far above the top of the sign itself. With these modifications, it was VOTED to approve the application. At 8:25 P.M. Hancock School Condominiums presented through Mr. Michael DiToro a request for the installation of three combination wood doors, painted to match the trim, xith black or bronze hardware, on three of the ground level units with patios. After a brief discussion it was VOTED to approve the doors. at 8:40 P.M. Chief Bergeron of the Fire Department discussed his appli- cation for replacement of the overhead doors on the main station at Bedford Street. The Commission sympahtized xith the Chief's opinion that there should be fewer glass panels in the doors, but found the existing doors quite attractive, and asked that the Chief return on July 23rd with a proposed door that would more closely resemble the existing doors than the plans ~ presented this evening. The Reverend Harvey J. Meppelink appeared at 8t55 P.M. for a hearing, postponed from June 4th and 18th, about a sign for the church on the foraner Munroe School grounds. The sign as presented was acceptable to the Commis- sion, with minor suggestions on color and location to be incorporated in a Certificate, and approval was therefore VOTED. ~ At 9:15 P.M. Frederick B, James, Otis Robinson, and Leonard Perry presented a request by the Shawmut Councy Bank, N.A., 1822 Massachusetts Avenue, for permission to paint the shutters a green-black color matching the front door, and the building trim and free-standing sign on Massachusetts Avenue a cream or off-white color. The Commission found the selected colors most attractive and accordingly VOTED to approve the same. The meeting was ad3ourned at 9s45 P.M. John R. Packard Chairman
