Addenda. to HISTORIC DISTRICTS COMMISSION Meeting - August 11, 191
Mr, Jaquith stated that the Scottish Rite Masons want to know whether
or not they wi].1 be permitted under any conditions to demolish the house at
1162 Massachusetts Avenue, Their Annual Meeting is scheduled for the end
of September and Mr, P7ewbury wishes to know before that whether or not the
Commission will permit demolition under any circumstances, They are willing
to accept a conditional approval contingent on their submitting and receiving
approval of plans for the museum complex at a later date.
t•?r. Parsons said that he did not approve demolition unless something
is erected that is more or less colonial or georgian in style and that he
would be opposed to a modern type complex.
~~xs. Williams said that she felt all would like to see a building or
complex that was comparable to the former Carter building,
Mr, Jaquith said that he feels somewhat the same, He said that he does
not feel that this house must be retained although he would like to see it
kept. He does not feel that anyone would ~i $100,000 or so to keep the
property as is and he cannot see a private developer improving on the evr-
rent situation, Hs said that he would approve tearing down the buildings
but would. not approve a modern structure for that spot,
Mr, Graves said that he was in favor of the project and he does not
feel that should tie the architects to the present building,
Mr, Jaquith said that he feels that, if the various Town Boards in-
volved in this problem ,r;ive them a feeling that the Town would approve the
museum complex, then the Scottish Rite Masons would probably go ahead with
the project. L~G~~'~7`-"
