The Historic Districts Commission met at the time and place
specified in the public notice of the hearing on the application of
0 Mrs. George E. Smith for a certificate of appropriateness to change
the exterior architectural features of the building at 9 - 11 Meriam
Street, which is within the Battle Ureen District.
Present were Donald R. Grant, Chairman, Philip D. Parsons, S;cretary,
Edwin B. Worthen, Jr., Cyrus Wood and Associate Member Charles H. Cole.
Absent was Donald E. Legro.
The chairman read the letter of application received from Mr. Lane
E. Wheaton, and the published notice. Mr. Lane E. Wheaton appeared in
favor of the application and spoke in behalf of the application. Also
present was Mrs. George E. Smith. The applicant presented samples of
shingles to be used in re- shingling all exposed sides of said building.
Questions were asked by various members of the commission. The hearing
was adjourned at 8 :20 P. M.
On motion made and duly seconded, it was unanimously VOTED to grant
to Mrs. George E. Smith a certificate of appropriateness for the removal
from the building of the small windows formerly used as ventilation for
horse stalls, and the re- shingling of all exposed sides of said building
and of the smaller building attached thereto on the southerly side of
the building located at 9 - 11 Meriam Street, which is in the Battle
Green District. All shingles are to be number two, square butted, cedar
shingles as per samples submitted and are to be stained with a dark brown
oil stain. All doors, sash and trim appearing on both buildings are to
be painted white.
Hearing was held at, 8:30 P. M. on the application of Tucker's of
Lexington, Inc., for a certificate of appropriateness for the erection
and display of two signs on the premises at 9 Muzzey Street, which is
within the Battle Green District.
The chairman read the letter of application received from Norman
Espovich, Attorney from Newburyport, and the published notice. Appearing
in favor of the application were Mrs. Tucker, Norman Espovich Attorney,
and Larry Fone, Architect. Mr. Lone explained his very detailed drawings
of the proposed signs, and questions were asked by various members of the
commission. The hearing was adjourned at 8:55 P. M.

which is within the Battle Green District.
The chairman reported that letters regarding the sign by -law adopted
by the Town of Lexington on May- 12, 1958 had been sent out to the various
tenants in the Historic Districts. Replies have been received from
Depositors Trust company, Lexington Cleansers & D yers, and Douglass
Funeral service. Hearings are to be held on Thursday, September 8, 1960,
along with an application from Lexington Federal Savings and Loan Assn.
The meeting was adjourned at 9 :45 P. M
