PLANNING BOARD MEETING
May 31, 1957
A special meeting of the Planning Board was
held in the Town Engineer's Room, Town Office Build-
ing on Friday, May 31, 1957 at 7:30 p.m. Present
were Chairman Grindle, Members Abbott, Burnell,
Jaquith and Soule and Planning Director Snow.
Mr. Gummere of Filene's met with the Board FILENE'S
to discuss the procedure in conducting the public
hearing to be held on June 6, 1957 to consider pro-
posals to amend the Lexington Zoning By-law so as to
provide for regional shopping center districts.
The Board likewise discussed with Mr. Gum -
mere additional information in regard to the Filene's
proposal, this information being given in the form
of answers to questions addressed to Mr. Gummere by
the Board.
Among the facts brought forward it was under-
stood that Federated Stores, Inc. (?) was taking title
to the whole of the McMahon property on Shade Street
and that the corporation had options on the 14 acre
Pilkington tract on the northeasterly side of the
Cambridge -Concord Highway and that portion of the
former Richards property between Spring Street and
its proposed relocation.
Mr. Gummere and Mr. Abbott left the meeting
at 9:20 p.m. after which the Board discussed further
matters concerning the regional shopping proposal. It
was decided if possible to avoid the reading at the
public hearing of the entire legal notice of the pro-
posals to be heard and to write to the State Depart-
ment of Public Works asking what its specific proposals
were in regard to the intersection of Spring Street
with the Cambridge -Concord Highway.
The meeting adjourned at 10:15 p.m.
Levi G. Burnell, Jr.
Clerk
1
