PLANNING BOARD MEETING <br />May 31, 1957 <br />A special meeting of the Planning Board was <br />held in the Town Engineer's Room, Town Office Build- <br />ing on Friday, May 31, 1957 at 7:30 p.m. Present <br />were Chairman Grindle, Members Abbott, Burnell, <br />Jaquith and Soule and Planning Director Snow. <br />Mr. Gummere of Filene's met with the Board FILENE'S <br />to discuss the procedure in conducting the public <br />hearing to be held on June 6, 1957 to consider pro- <br />posals to amend the Lexington Zoning By-law so as to <br />provide for regional shopping center districts. <br />The Board likewise discussed with Mr. Gum - <br />mere additional information in regard to the Filene's <br />proposal, this information being given in the form <br />of answers to questions addressed to Mr. Gummere by <br />the Board. <br />Among the facts brought forward it was under- <br />stood that Federated Stores, Inc. (?) was taking title <br />to the whole of the McMahon property on Shade Street <br />and that the corporation had options on the 14 acre <br />Pilkington tract on the northeasterly side of the <br />Cambridge -Concord Highway and that portion of the <br />former Richards property between Spring Street and <br />its proposed relocation. <br />Mr. Gummere and Mr. Abbott left the meeting <br />at 9:20 p.m. after which the Board discussed further <br />matters concerning the regional shopping proposal. It <br />was decided if possible to avoid the reading at the <br />public hearing of the entire legal notice of the pro- <br />posals to be heard and to write to the State Depart- <br />ment of Public Works asking what its specific proposals <br />were in regard to the intersection of Spring Street <br />with the Cambridge -Concord Highway. <br />The meeting adjourned at 10:15 p.m. <br />Levi G.
