met with the Planning Board to discuss the need for and ' <br />possibility of acquiring additional land for recreational <br />purposes. reviewed were the Board's January 23, 1957 HARRINGTOty <br />letter to the School Committee and Supt. Smith's reply SCHOOL <br />of February 5, 1957, copies of which the Board had PLAYGROUND <br />sent to each member of the Recreation Committee. SITE <br />Committee members stated that they thought it <br />most important to acquire additional land for <br />recreational use contiguous with the Harrington School <br />site and decided to discuss with the School Committee <br />its plans for expansion of the school. The Board <br />furnished the Recreation Committee with a copy of lair. <br />Paul McCormack's study plan for developing the land <br />adjacent to the school site. <br />There was also a discussion of the Planning <br />Board's activities relative to recreation areas. With RECREATION <br />reference to the Recreation Committee created by the CO,hiITTEE <br />vovember 19, 1957 Special Tol,n f=leeting under a new <br />ToT,�ni By-la�,,i, the following conclusions were reached: <br />1. That the Plannii � Board i,;ill continue to <br />seek desirable locations and tracts for use <br />as recreational areas. <br />2. That the Planning Board will make recommends- ' <br />tions to the Board o1 Selectmen and Recreation; <br />Committee as to their acquisition for such <br />purposes. <br />3. That the Planning Board does not consider that <br />the physical developme.it of these areas is <br />within its province after acquisition by the <br />Town. <br />4. That the Board of Selectmen or the Recreation <br />Committee acting through the Board of Select- <br />men, has the responsibility for such physical <br />development if said Board recommends and the <br />Tos:n acquires) the -individual tracts for <br />recreation purposes. <br />At 8:30 p.m. the Board With the exception of <br />Chairman Hathaway met in joint session with the ZONING <br />Selectmen to .-ear Pair. Gummere and Mr. Holmes present PROPOSAL <br />a re -zoning proposal for Lexington. (See the Select- <br />men's minutes for a record of said joint session.) <br />At 10:15 p.m. the ?Board returned to its own meet- <br />ing in the Towl-I Engineer's Room. At this time Fir. ' <br />Stevens met i%,i th the Board to discuss Leeland. Con- <br />struction Co.'s grant of easement to Barbara Anderson <br />
