511 <br />-2- <br />Dr. Goldmann brought up the subject of a rash that continues to occur <br />in some of the schools. He thinks the Board should make some kind of state- RASH - <br />ment. SCHOOLS <br />Mr. Smith said it is up to the school department to handle all of this. <br />Dr. Goldmann said the Board should know how many cases there are of this <br />rash. <br />Dr. Asarkof said he would call the pediatricians and poll them on the <br />number of cases they have seen. <br />Dr. Goldmann brought up the subject of the suicides of young people in SUICIDES <br />Lexington. There has been one suicide and four attempts, he said, Dr. AMONG THE <br />Goldmann feels the Board should be doing more. Lexington is right behind YOUNG <br />Leominster. Dr. Asarkof said he had spoken to Mr. Southworth at the schools. <br />They really don't know just how far the schools can go prying into the <br />family's lives. <br />Jacqy Selway said maybe workshops, etc. would help. <br />Dr. Goldmann feels the Board should be having hearings on this subject. <br />Dr. Goldmann said instead of talking septic systems overflowing, VNA, <br />hazardous wastes day and other such topics, we should be concentrating on <br />the problems of the young people in the schools. <br />Mr. Smith said those things are part of the duties of the Board of Health, <br />also but we should bring something constructive up front, should money be <br />appropriated for education, who do we talk to, where do we start? <br />Dr. Asarkof said a starting point is to contact the school department, <br />police, school counselors, call attention of this to the Town Manager, Board <br />of Selectmen, Town Meeting and bring it also to the attention of the whole <br />town. <br />Dr. Asarkof said we should start with the schools and ask about the <br />suicides. <br />They wondered what happened to the questionnaire that Bea Phear was going <br />to get together. <br />Mr. Smith said that Mrs. Phear has left the employment of the town. <br />Seragen had an appointment at 8:30 p.m. but did not show up at the SERAGEN <br />appointed time so they are now over the time for their proposal. <br />Jacqy Selway has continued her inspections daily. She has inspected <br />mobile servers, and has been inspecting vending machines, inplant cafe- <br />terias, retail food stores and restaurants. <br />She answered a complaint about the trash behind the C.V.S. store. <br />Jacqy accompanied Mr. Smith over to the Bridge School to check out some <br />areas that were under our jurisdiction. <br />SANITARIAN'S <br />REPORT <br />
