*468 <br />Mr. Freeman said he paid $250,000 for theland and house. He tried to <br />get Mr. Tropeano to come and see the conditions that the 86 year old couple <br />were living in. <br />After further discussion, the Board agreed to condemn the house as living <br />quarters. Mr. Smith said the Building Commissioner could order the house <br />torn down. <br />Mr. Smith discussed with the Board the idea of charging for issuing of <br />BURIAL burial permits to the funeral directors that come into the Board of Health <br />PERMITS Office. He said some towns do charge a fee for this service. <br />The Board decided that it would be best at this time not to charge for <br />the issuing of a burial permit. <br />Mr. Smith told the Board about the stuffed chicks that had been imported <br />to this country around Easter time. They killed live chicks and then stuffed <br />STUFFED them with a filler that contained arsenic. He said they had a high bacteria <br />CHICKS count. <br />He found that Joel's Candy Store had sold 14 of them and Mr. Smith was <br />able to get two of them back and take them to the State Lab. <br />He wrote an article for the Lexington paper this week so people can be <br />aware of this. <br />We had received a notice that many restaurants have been using sulfite in <br />their food, particularly in the salads to keep them fresh looking. Mr. Smith <br />SULFITE visited the restaurants and made them aware that they can use this only if <br />they post a sign stating that that they do. Some restaurants had been using <br />sulfite but they agreed to stop using it. This is very detrimental to the health <br />of asmatics. <br />SWIMMING Mr. Smith told the Board that the State has redone the swimming pool regulations. <br />POOL BEGS. He is going to work this year with the new chemical standards. There have been <br />very stringent changes in the regulations. <br />Mr. Smith mentioned briefly that chlordane is now illegal to have in one's <br />possession. Some people have brought chlordane into the office and a disposal <br />CHLORDANE truck is coming tomorrow to take it away. <br />The Rabies Clinic has been set for May 26 and May 27, 1983 from one to four p.m. <br />RABIES Mr. Smith said if we don't have a good turnout this year - we will cut it down <br />CLINIC to one day next year. <br />He told the Board that we will not be selling licenses at the clinic this year. <br />Ginny Brady had reported that she received some hostility in East Lexington <br />because of cutting back of the blood pressure clinic there. <br />The Health Fair will be held on May 14th at the Fire Station. The Board <br />of Health is working with Choate -Symmes for the fair. <br />Cancer detection clinic will be held on May 10th in Cary Hall. <br />1 <br />1 <br />
