DRAFT <br /> COMMUNITY FARMING COMMITTEE <br />Members: 5 <br />Appointed by: Board of Selectmen <br />Length of term: 3 years <br />Meeting times: As necessary <br />The Community Farming Committee (the ‘Committee’) will monitor the operations of <br />any entity operating a community farm on Town-owned land. The Committee shall make <br />regular reports to the Board of Selectmen that include an evaluation of the operator(s): <br />Operational/site plan; <br />Educational programming; <br />Financial condition; <br />Environmental practices; <br />Compliance in meeting contract requirements; and <br />Public benefits of community farming activities <br />Description: The Committee shall make recommendations to the Board of Selectmen <br />about any changes to be made to any aspect of community farming that could further <br />benefit the community. These community farming activities do not include the <br />community gardens that are located on Town-owned land under the jurisdiction of the <br />Conservation Commission. <br />Members of the Committee may also serve as members of the Evaluation Committee <br />designated by the Town Manager to recommend, in response to a Request for Proposals, <br />an organization to operate community farming activities on Town-owned land. <br />Any and all recommendations of the Committee, including funding recommendations, <br />shall be made only to the Board of Selectmen unless the Selectmen direct otherwise The <br />Board of Selectmen may choose whether to further these recommendations, including <br />presenting the request to Town Meeting, based on the Board’s determination of what is in <br />the best interest of the community. <br />Criteria for membership: The Committee shall consist of citizens with sufficient <br />background to understand the financial and operational activities of a community farm, as <br />well as an understanding of the benefits of community farming. <br />Staff support: Board of Selectmen’s Office <br />Ex Officio/liaisons (non-voting): Town Manager’s designee <br /> <br />
