BOARD OF APPEALS <br />' November 10, 1977 <br />The Board of Appeals held a regular meeting on Thursday, November 10, 1977, <br />beginning at 7:30 p.m., in the Selectmen's Meeting Room, Town Office Building. <br />Present: George P. Wadsworth, Chairman <br />Ruth Morey, Vice Chairman <br />Woodruff M. Brodhead <br />Thomas G. Taylor <br />Robert M. Gary, Associate <br />Public hearings were held on the following petitions, notices of the hearings <br />having been mailed and hearings advertised in the Lexington Minute -Man newspaper <br />as required by statute. <br />Francis A. Drake - special permit to affix a directional sign (3' x 12 1/2') to <br />building at 401 Lowell Street, to direct customers to cabinet showroom and office. <br />Location of sign to be on side of building facing Woburn Street and Lowell Street; <br />or permission to install approximately 4' from end of driveway, a free standing <br />sign (3' x 5') and approximately 9' from ground to bottom edge of sign; or some <br />other sign which would meet the Board's approval for identification or directional <br />Taftoses. <br />David E. Gompers - special permit, pursuant to Section 13 of Lexington Zoning By- <br />laws, to construct a building (approximately 113,000 sq. ft.) at the property des- <br />cribed herein: Land in Lexington, Mass. shown as Lot #1 and Lot #2 on a plan in <br />Lexington, filed in the Land Registration Office for the Southern District of <br />Middlesex County with Certificate #139005 in Book #785, Page #45. The premises <br />are further described in Certificate of Title #134333 recorded in said Registry <br />in Book #801, Page 183, and also shown on Lexington Property Map 80, Lot 4. <br />Petitioner has an option to purchase said land. <br />SMM Realty Corporation — special permit (12.2) to build and use two office and <br />research buildings, each two stories in height and each 30,000 sq. ft. on its <br />5.45 acre site at 1-5 Forbes Road, pursuant to Sections 13, 25.40, 25.41, 25.42 <br />and 25.71 of Lexington Zoning By-law. Also requested are variances (12.3) to <br />allow: (a) the construction of the buildings to have front yards of less than 100 <br />feet abutting Forbes Road (building A, 75 feet and building B, 60 feet) and to <br />allow building B to have a rear yard of 58 feet from an RO district instead of the <br />required 100 feet, which conditions vary from Section 27 (Dimensional Controls) <br />and Section 26; (2) the use of 29 parking spaces servicing the buildings which <br />are located within 50 feet of an RO District and 12 feet of a side lot line, 25 <br />feet being required, in variance with Section 32.2 (Parking & Loading); and (c) <br />the use of Parking Spaces having a 9 foot width and 18 foot length in variance <br />with Section 40. <br />Margery H. Howard and Robert R. Howard, Jr. - use variance on their property at <br />82 Waltham Street. They propose the following: <br />1. To rent the first floor to Casco Real Estate, Inc. for use as a real <br />estate sales office. <br />' 2. To rent the second floor of the subject dwelling to a private individual <br />as a residence only. <br />3. To remove the existing sheds and barn and grade their present location <br />as a gravel surfaced parking lot for the use of the tenants as above and <br />their clients and company only. <br />
