1211 <br />BOARD OF APPEALS MEETING <br />June B. 1945 <br />A meeting of the BoardofAppeals was held in the <br />Selectmen's Room, Town Office Building on Friday evening, <br />June 8, 1945, at 8;00 P. M. Chairman Bowker, Messrs. Locke, <br />Nickerson, Brown and Associate, Member Lynah were present. <br />The Clerk was also present. <br />At 8;00 P.- M. hearing was declared open upon the appli- <br />cation of Richard Kelly, 567 Main Street, Waltham, for per- <br />mission to maintain a golf driving range on land on Lowell <br />Street owned by Moward M. Munroe. Mr. Howard Munroe, Mr, <br />Gerald Cataldo, Mr. Kelly, the petitioner, and Mr. Dennis <br />M. Cronin, 1357 Washington Street, West Newton, attorney for <br />the petitioner, were present at the hearing. <br />Notice of the hearing was read by Mr. Lynah. <br />Mr. Cronin stated tjat a few months ago Mr. Kelly leased <br />the property from Mr. Munroe for a period of two years for the <br />purpose of operating a golf driving range, and it was after <br />• the lease had been signed that he learned it was necessary to <br />have a Board of Appeals.permit. <br />The Chairman asked if the property were adjacent to <br />Countryside and Mr. Kelly stated that the driving range would <br />be located in the same place as the one previously operated <br />by Mr. Munroe. <br />The Chairman read the restrictions included in the <br />Board of Appeals Order granted to Mr. Munroe in 1941, and <br />Mr. Cronin said that the restrictions were all very reasonable. <br />The Chairman asked how the range would be lighted and Mr. <br />Kelly said that he would use the same lights that had been <br />previously used, that is 1,000 watt lights. <br />The Chairman asked if there would be any signs and Mr. <br />Kelly replied in the negative. <br />Mr. Lynah asked if the property would be used as it now <br />is and Mr. Kelly replied in the affirmative. <br />Mr. Nickerson asked if there had been signs used in con - <br />neetion with the former driving range and Mr. Kelly replied <br />that he thought there had been a sign, but that there will <br />only be one sign on the building - "Countryside". <br />Mr. Locke asked if Mr. Kelly intended to operate Country- <br />side and Mr. Kelly said that he was going to operate the driv- <br />ing range only. <br />Mr. Brown asked if there were sufficient area for park- <br />ing cars and Mr. Kelly replied in the affirmative. <br />Mr. Nickerson asked if the range would he operated on <br />Sunday and Mr. Kelly replied in the affirmative. <br />The hearing was declared closed at 8;10 t. M. <br />The records of the meeting held on May 26, 1945, were <br />declared approved. <br />At 8;15 P. M. hearing was declared open upon the appli- <br />cation of William H. Schuler, Jr., for permission to maintain <br />a riding stable on the premises owned by Larchmont Farms and <br />located on Larchmont Lane, Lexington. <br />
