2003 Annual Town Meeting,Adjourned Session ofApril 2, 2003 cont... <br /> ARTICLE 28: RETIREMENT BOARD <br /> 9:53 p.m. Peter Kelley moved: <br /> MOTION: That this article be indefinitely postponed. <br /> 9:53 p.m. MOTION ADOPTED. <br /> ARTICLE 29: PETITION GENERAL COURT—AMEND ALCOHOLIC <br /> BEVERAGE LICENSE PROVISIONS <br /> 9:54 p.m. Selectman Dawn McKenna moved: <br /> MOTION: That the Board of Selectmen are authorized to petition the General <br /> Court for an Act to allow the Selectmen to grant licenses for the sale of alcoholic <br /> beverages, including but not limited to licenses for the sale of beer and wine only, <br /> in restaurants with less than 99 seats notwithstanding Massachusetts General <br /> Laws c.138, provided that this measure is approved by a majority of voters at an <br /> annual or special election. <br /> 9:54 p.m. Mrs. McKenna explained requested action and reported the unanimous <br /> support of the Board of Selectmen. <br /> 9:56 p.m. Fred Johnson, Lexington Center Committee, presented the need for the <br /> requested action and reported the support of the Lexington Center Committee and <br /> Chamber of Commerce. <br /> Discussion ensued in favor and against the motion, procedures for granting liquor <br /> licenses, and monitoring of practices for entities to which licenses are granted. <br /> Town Manager Richard White explained statute provides great latitude to the Board of <br /> Selectmen. <br /> 10:10 p.m. MOTION ADOPTED. <br /> 10:10 p.m. Selectman Leo McSweeney moved the meeting be adjourned until 8:00 <br /> p.m., Monday, April 7, 2003 at the National Heritage Museum. <br /> 10:10 p.m. MOTION ADOPTED. <br /> A true copy: <br /> Donna M.
