165 <br /> TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE <br /> October 2, 1958 <br /> The third meeting of the 1958-59 Town <br /> Celebrations Committee was held in the Selectmen' s <br /> Room of the Town Office Building at 8 00 p m , <br /> October 2, 1958 Present were Messrs Gustin, <br /> Rooney; Mesdames Pullen, Litchfield and Williams <br /> Mr Gustin read a letter from Margaret (Mrs <br /> J M ) Biggs, Chairman of the Theater Guild of Lex- THEATRE <br /> ington Arts and Crafts Society, expressing the hope GUILD <br /> that the Theater Guild might be given the opportu- <br /> nity to present a comedy on April. 18th or early the <br /> evening of April 19th The "First American Comedy" <br /> was mentioned as a possible performance The Com- <br /> mittee was interested in the idea and members of the <br /> Theater Guild will be invited to the next meeting of <br /> the Celebrations Committee to discuss the possibility <br /> of sucha performance <br /> Mr Gustin read a letter from a Brookline High. <br /> School student asking that their band be asked to <br /> participate in the 1959 April 19th. parade <br /> Mrs Williams reported that Miss Morrison, <br /> Principal of Adams School, has chosen a maple tree to TREE <br /> be planted at the United Nations tree-planting cere- PLANTING <br /> mony at Adams School on Friday, October twenty-fourth, <br /> at 11 00 Mrs Williams will inquire of Miss Morrison <br /> whether or not she would like to have a Selectman, <br /> member of the School Committee, or a member of the <br /> Celebrations Committee to speak <br /> Mrs Pullen reported that three people have <br /> assepted—as—j-udg-e-s—f-o-r—the—high—sehoo-SUN. ESSAY <br /> Contest At present, there are no plans for an CONTEST <br /> assembly program at the highschool on U N Day Mr <br /> Gustin will bring this to the attention of a member of <br /> the Student Council Mrs Pullen will ask the League <br /> of Women Voters to speak to the Student Council, also <br /> Miss McIntyre, teacher of Social Sciences of the <br /> High School, has invited Miss Sureshst Renjen, graduate <br /> student at Harvard, to speak at the high school on Mon- <br /> day, October sixth The Committee will provide trans- <br /> portation <br /> Mrs Pullen will ask Miss McIntyre to select a <br /> 11 <br /> convenient date for the trip to the United Nations <br /> Mrs Pullen. will ask Mr Peirce of the Lexington Travel <br />
