161 <br /> - 1 TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE <br /> September 16, 1958 <br /> The first meeting of the 1958-59 Town Celebra- <br /> tions Committee was held in the Conference Room of <br /> Cary Memorial Hall at 8 00 p.m on September 16, 1958 <br /> Present were Messrs Gustin, Dearborn, Hutchins; <br /> Mesdames Pullen and Williams <br /> Also present were Sonia (Mrs M W ) Arsove, 33 <br /> Barberry Road, representing the League of Women Voters <br /> in connection with the United Nations Day Essay Contest <br /> Mr Gustin announced that the first Cary Lecture <br /> will be on Thursday, October twenty-third Mr Christo- UNITED <br /> pher Phillips U S Representative of Economic and NATIONS <br /> Social Council will be the speaker This lecture will <br /> be presented by the Cary Lecture Committee jointly with <br /> the Town Celebrations Committee as an observance of <br /> United Nations Day Mrs Ralph Tucker of the Cary Lec- <br /> ture Committee will be in charge of liaison with. the <br /> Town Celebrations Committee <br /> 'r Paul Poehler has found it necessary to re- <br /> sign from the T C C because of his being appointed as RESIGNA- <br /> Acting School Superintendent Mr Gustin asked for TION <br /> suggestions for a replacement for Mr. Poehler on the <br /> Committee with someone who is, also, connected with. the POEHLER <br /> schools <br /> The Committee welcomed Mr Murray Dearborn who <br /> was recently appointed by the Board of Selectmen to <br /> the Town Celebrations Committee Mr Gustin immediately <br /> asked Mr Dearborn to replace Mr Poehler as Chairman <br /> of the United Nations Day observance <br /> Mrs Sonia Arsove of the L W V gave a report of <br /> the L W V activities to date, in connection with the U N DAY <br /> setting up of the United Nations Day Essay Contest ESSAY <br /> whichis open to Lexington High. School seniors who have CONTEST <br /> a grade of "C" or better Miss McIntyre has announced <br /> the contest to the students The L W V chose the sub- <br /> ject for the essay, and will select three judges Two <br /> winners, a boy and a girl, will be announced on United <br /> Nations Day, October 24th Mr Dearborn will find out <br /> about details of financing a trip to the United Nations <br /> for the winners and their chaperone He will report <br /> to Mrs Arsove Mr Gustin will arrange the travel de- <br /> tails <br /> The T C C felt that the winning essays should be <br /> published Mrs Arsove will inquire whether or not <br />
