TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE <br /> October 24, 1957 <br /> The eleventh meeting of the Town Celebrations <br /> Committee was held at 8 15 p.m. October 24, 1957 in <br /> the Conference Room, Cary Memorial Hall Present <br /> Messrs Gustin, Poehler, Cole, Lewis, Rooney; Mes- <br /> dames Cheever, Litchfield and Pullen. Also Rev. Hogan <br /> of St Brigid's Church, Rev Taylor of the Unitarian <br /> Church and Mrs Bandes of the Jewish Community Center. <br /> Mr Poehler gave an outline of the Junior and JUNIOR <br /> Senior High School Assemblies that day Due to rain, HIGH <br /> the Junior High assembly was held in-doors Mr Gustin, ASSEMBLY <br /> Mr Poehler, Mrs. Pullen and Mrs Litchfield attended <br /> and were very impressed with the fine and inspiring <br /> program conducted by the students Mrs Pullen's <br /> daughter took part in the program <br /> Committee members then went to the Senior High SENIOR <br /> School for another fine assembly Mr. Gustin HIGH <br /> announced the winners of the essay contest, Carol ASSEMBLY <br /> Flynn. and John Overton Carol ' s subject was the <br /> Effectiveness of this U N. , and John's, Disarmament ESSAY <br /> Arthur Currier, who had been an exchange student, WINNERS <br /> spoke of his experiences in Norway, followed by <br /> Beat Schurch of Switzerland, a senior in High School, <br /> who told of life in his country <br /> Mr Poehler told the committee the judges were <br /> very impressed with all the essays, and that it was <br /> difficult to select the winners <br /> The Thanksgiving service was then discussed <br /> Mr P"ehl$r-rep•ertsd the a,C 1t.i-iuw was avaiiaole, THANKS- <br /> subject to their approval of organist As the organ GIVING <br /> is new, they request that care be taken to select a <br /> competent organist <br /> Mr. Cole had contacted Mr Lockwood, President <br /> of the Lexington Choral Society who was agreeable to <br /> the society' s participation providing they could have <br /> a practice session at 7 p.m and that the committee <br /> would approach the churches to borrow vestments, also <br /> that there should be ample room for 100 singers <br /> Motion was made and seconded that committee make such <br /> request.
