101 <br /> TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE <br /> September 19, 1957 <br /> Members present Cheever, Gustin, Poehler, Pullen <br /> Representatives Viano and Foster, Chamber of <br /> Commerce; Hanson, League of <br /> Women Voters; Overton, Glenn, <br /> Cutter, Student Council at H S ; <br /> Borselli and Kyle, Promenaders <br /> The meeting was called to order by chairman, <br /> Mr Gustin at 8 15 p.m Mr Foster reported that YANKEE <br /> Jack Frost of Yanjee Homecoming had three sugges- HOMECOMING <br /> tions for additions to the Lexington April 19 pro- <br /> gram 1) Name the morning breakfast "Yankee Home- <br /> coming Breakfast" 2) Set a time for the arrival in <br /> Lexington for the caravan. of covered wagons from the <br /> west 3) Restage the battle on the Lexington Green <br /> There was no objection to the first, the second can <br /> be arranged, and the third was deemed impossible <br /> ll Mr Viano, speaking as president of Rotary,announced that the Rotary will assume sponsorship of <br /> a Patriot' s Ball for adults the evening of April 19th <br /> Mrs. Pullen will be the channel through which <br /> inquiries about Yankee Homecoming will be directed <br /> Mr Foster said that the C of C will receive a plaque <br /> saying Lexington will be the "kick-off" for Yankee <br /> Homecoming, and national publicity frow Mr Frost' s <br /> office will start within 3 or 4 weeks <br /> The young students present were briefed on plans <br /> and ideas for Aprii ly and UN Day The Promenaders <br /> were asked to consider a Patriot' s Ball, and the choos- <br /> ing and crowning of a Queen The Student Council will <br /> consider hosting high school bands invited to march on <br /> the 19th, and invite Lexington graduates back for the <br /> "homecoming" The essay contest idea interested them, <br /> and they suggest that the contest be open to 9-12 <br /> grades UN assembly ideas were discussed. The <br /> Students then left soon after 9 and will return when <br /> their groups have discussed these ideas and arrived at <br /> some conclusions <br /> Mr Poehler reported that he had cleared the <br /> essay contest idea with both Mr Smith and Miss McIntyre <br /> who approved of the contest and the prize of a trip to <br /> the U N for the boy and girl winners <br />
