Celebrations <br /> Committee was held in the Conference Room, Cary <br /> Memorial Hall, September 12, 1957 at 8:15 p.m <br /> All members were present, also Mr Leonard Foster <br /> of the Lexington Chamber of Commerce and Mrs Paul <br /> Hanson of the League of Women Voters <br /> Minutes of the last meeting were read and <br /> approved <br /> Mr Poehler reported that the tree planted TREE <br /> last U N Day has been cared for, and is in good <br /> condition The plaque is still in the custodian' s <br /> office Motion was made and seconded to have the <br /> same type of program for this year, giving tree to <br /> the Junior High School Motion scarried. Mrs <br /> Cheever was asked to write Mr Smith, with copy to <br /> Mr Norlin, that the committee had voted to honor <br /> the Junior High School this year Committee wishes <br /> to know of the plans to be made for the exercises, <br /> alto type of tree desired. <br /> Tentative list of events for April 19th were 19th OF <br /> distributed by Mr Gustin APRIL <br /> Miss Anderson still has Americanization <br /> classes and it was suggested that she be given <br /> supply of Bill of Rights for distribution. <br /> Mr Poehler brought a projector, and showed <br /> the committee the newly_purchneled -film s-trip, '�[an' s <br /> Three Basic Needs " <br /> Essay contest for U.N, Day was then discussed. <br /> The League of Women Voters was asked to act as spon- ESSAY <br /> soring group for this contest It is hoped the CONTEST <br /> League and other groups will raise a sufficient amount <br /> of money to take the winning boy and girl to the U N <br /> Mrs Hanson will report back to her board, and will <br /> tall; with Mr Warren after he has received letter from <br /> Mrs Cheever, advising him of committee ' s recommen- <br /> dations The League and Mr. Warren will work out de- <br /> tails <br /> Letter from the Chamber of Commerce relative <br /> L <br /> to sponsoring breakfast on the 19th has not been re- <br /> ceived by the committee, but Mr Foster told the com- <br />
