85 <br /> REPORT OF TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE <br /> The Town Celebrations Committee, now a By-law <br /> committee of the Town of Lexington, is responsible for <br /> the observance of the 19th of April and United Nations <br /> Day <br /> The Committee believes the form of any obser- <br /> vance should properly reflect the wishes of the citizens <br /> and taxpayers of the town. In 1957 April 19 coincides <br /> with Good Friday and as a result an abbreviated obser- <br /> vance was indicated and is planned A minimum budget APPROPRIATIDN <br /> was submitted on this basis for the current year <br /> The committee would like to point out, however, <br /> that a budget for a normal and regular observance is <br /> estimated at approximately $(},000.00. To properly <br /> develop plans for the 19th of April celebration it is <br /> necessary to start making arrangements months before the <br /> actual date and in many cases actual committments should <br /> be concluded Under the arrangement of town meeting late <br /> in March, and sometimes extending into April, the com- <br /> mittee has no appropriation and therefore is restrained <br /> j from properly developing a completed plan <br /> The committee would like to have the town meeting <br /> recognize the problem and, by accepting this report, give <br /> a vote of assurance so that proper plans may be developed <br /> for 1958 <br />
