31 <br /> TOWN CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE <br /> January 31, 1956 <br /> Open Meeting <br /> The Open Meeting of the Town Celebrations <br /> Committee was held on the evening of January 31, 1956 <br /> in Estabrook Hall Mr Bertram Gustin presided in <br /> the absence of the Chairman, Mr Raymond Lewis There <br /> were 30 representatives of local organizations and 13 <br /> Committee members present Committee members absent <br /> Belcher, Dearborn, Lewis, and Rooney <br /> Mr Gustin opened the meeting with an explana- <br /> tion of the formation of the Town Celebrations Committee <br /> by the Board of Selectmen and introduced the members of <br /> the Committee He reviewed what had been considered in <br /> planning for the celebration of April 19 in Lexington <br /> and enlightened attending representatives about the <br /> theme, "Let It Begin Here " <br /> Mr Poehler, chairman of the sub-committee to <br /> study theme ideas, read some twenty suggestions of the <br /> interpretation of It in the theme Mr Bashian de- <br /> scribed briefly the Color Guard which used to be an <br /> excellent feature in the April 19 parade and which no <br /> longer is a youth program in Lexington. Mr Bateman <br /> spoke on plans by the Board of Selectmen for a perma- <br /> nent by-law committee in town <br /> Mr Gustin asked for suggestions from the repre- <br /> sentatives to help make April 19 a Lexington-partici- <br /> pated day of celebration After discussion from the <br /> floor it was agreed by those present that because of <br /> the shortness of time each representative present would <br /> go back to their respective organizations, explain the <br /> business of this Open Meeting, have suggestions and <br /> plans sent to or brought to the Town Celebrations Com- <br /> mittee which meets on the 2nd and Lith Tuesdays of each <br /> month in the American Legion Room of Cary Hall <br /> The following motions were voted on <br /> 1) Moved that a questionnaire be sent out to all town <br /> organizations from the Committee to ascertain what <br /> part each organization would be willing to play in <br /> the April 19 celebrations <br /> Motion lost <br /> 2) Moved that the Town Celebrations Committee be <br /> II <br />
