Mr Lewis explained that the Secretary <br /> SECRETARY would have a great deal of work to do, writing and <br /> telephoning and that the Secretary should be some one <br /> DISCUSSION who would be readily available at all times After <br /> some discussion it was decided possibly it would be <br /> best to have two Secretaries - one a Recording Secre- <br /> tary and one a Corresponding Secretary but to lay over <br /> to the next meeting the final decision Upon motion <br /> duly made and seconded, Mr Lewis Kennedy was elected <br /> Recording Secretary for the current meeting <br /> It was the sense of the meeting that our Com- <br /> POLICY mittee had been appointed by the Selectmen to call <br /> upon whatever persons or organizations it chose for <br /> assistance and participation and that the members of <br /> our Committee were not chosen because they or any of <br /> them happened to belong to any particular groups or <br /> organizations within the Town <br /> It was the sense of the meeting that the Com- <br /> mittee would not resort to the Selectmen nor appeal <br /> to them, except for money to take care of the expenses <br /> of the Committee <br /> It was the sense of the meeting that the cele- <br /> brations should be financed, as far as possible, with- <br /> out recourse to Town funds and that money should be <br /> raised privately and publicly in ways to be determined <br /> upon <br /> If it should prove necessary to appeal to the <br /> Town for funds, Mr Foster pointed out that a request <br /> for our appropriation must be in the hands of the <br /> Selectmen by December in order that an article might <br /> appear in the Warrant for Town Meeting <br /> Upon motion duly made and seconded it was <br /> VOTED To invite one of the Selectmen, preferably the <br /> Chairman, to be present at the next meeting of <br /> the Committee and that the Recording Secretary <br /> pro tem be directed to extend this invitation <br /> It was <br /> VOTED That the next meeting of the Committee be held <br /> on Wednesday, September twenty-eighth at 8 p.m <br /> sharp in. the Selectmen' s Room at the Town <br /> Office Building <br /> Plans were then discussed for the celebration of <br /> UNITED United Nations Day which will be October 21i..
