HomeMy WebLinkAbout2024-05-07-TREE-minLexington Tree Committee -Working session of Regulations Subcommittee Minutes May 7,2024 1:00 pm via Zoom Present:Barbara Tarrh,Tim Lee,Gavin Grant,Rachel Summers,Nancy Sofen,Jim Wood,Pat Moyer,Alicia Morris.A quorum of the Tree Committee was present. 1.The committee affirmed by consensus that the list of trees given 4x credit will conform to the intent of the bylaw,which is to incentivize planting of large shade trees.Large shade trees were defined as having a mature height of at least 40’and spread of at least 30’, and therefore no columnar cultivars unless they meet those criteria.As this is a list of the most desirable trees,those not native to New England were included only if they offered characteristics that may be hard to find in native trees available in 3”caliper size. 2.Poor availability will be noted on the list,but is not a reason to exclude an otherwise desirable tree.Many of the native nut trees are best transplanted when small. 3.A format for the list was agreed to,and attached list may still need some formatting. Trees will be listed alphabetically by common name.Other fields include scientific name,whether native to NE (or native range if not),height,spread,whether suitable for street planting,growing conditions,attributes,notes on availability. 4.Using above criteria,a draft Large Shade Tree List was agreed to.This will be sent to the DPW for their feedback. 5.Next Regulations Subcommittee meeting to discuss Invasive Tree List for exemption to the bylaw.Gavin,Pat,Barbara,Rachel and Nancy are interested.Following that Tim, Jim and Nancy will work on Tree Protection Plan regulations.
