0 <br /> ARTICLE CREATING COMMITTEE <br /> Article 76 as passed at the 1971 Annual Town Meeting <br /> APTICLE 76: Motion That the Town adopt the following resolution and <br /> instruct the Selectmen to transmit the same, together with <br /> the report of the Town's action thereon, to the Governor, <br /> the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House <br /> of Representatives of the Commonwealth; <br /> Whereas property taxes in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts <br /> are among the highest in the nation, <br /> Whereas the Master Tax Plan Commission has referred to the <br /> local property tax as an inequitable and regressive form of <br /> taxation, <br /> Be It Resolved that the Town of Lexington petitions the <br /> Great and General Court of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts <br /> to concentrate its attentions on consideration and early <br /> adoption of a revised tax program for the Commonwealth and <br /> its municipalities that will alleviate the undue share of <br /> the burden borne by local property taxpayers <br /> 11 03 P.M <br /> John J Maguire presented the following <br /> Motion That the subject matter of this article be referred <br /> to a study committee composed of the Chairman of the Board <br /> of Selectmen, the Chairman of the Appropriation Committee, <br /> and the Chairman of the School Committee and six citizens of <br /> Lexington to be appointed by the Moderator; and that this <br /> committee report its conclusions and recommendations to the <br /> next annual town meeting <br /> 11 07 P.M <br /> Mr Maguire's motion to refer the subject matter of Article <br /> 76 to a committee was declared carried by voice vote. <br /> 11 08 P.M <br />
