1 <br /> <br />VFL Subcommittee on Local Election Voter Participation <br />February 16, 2024 <br />10 AM <br />Zoom <br /> <br /> <br />Minutes <br /> <br />Members in Attendance: Marian Cohen, Margaret Coppe, Dan Joyner, Fernando Quezada, Eileen Zalisk, Jeri <br />Zeder <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 10:02 AM. A quorum was present. Chair Jeri Zeder read the script for <br />remotely conducted open meetings. <br />Members voted unanimously: Cohen, Aye, Coppe Aye, Joyner Aye, Quezada Aye, Zalisk, Aye, Zeder, Aye. <br /> <br />Approval of the January 19, 2024 minutes was moved by Jeri Zeder and seconded by Fernando Quezada with <br />two edits: add Marian Cohen to attendees, correct reference to Cohen’s work in #2 and voted unanimously. <br />Voice vote: Cohen, Aye, Coppe Aye, Joyner Aye, Quezada Aye, Zalisk, Aye, Zeder, Aye <br /> <br />Discussion items <br />1. Progress on writing assignments <br />Coppe on Voting History in Lexington <br />• Get information from Town Clerk on breakdown of local voting on early voting, mail in voting, <br />absentee voting (will wait until after March 5 elections) <br />• Information on early voting post Covid (March 3, 2020 was prior to Covid shutdown) <br />• Breakdown of contested races in local elections, both town wide and precinct <br />• More detail on races, names of candidates, results, etc <br />• Data analysis, Marian Cohen will help with this. Goal is to produce 4 charts, one comparing <br />presidential to municipal races <br />• Comments from Fernando on encouraging civic engagement; will getting data and making it <br />available do this <br />• Need to identify parameters in presidential and state elections versus municipal elections <br />• Example of steps Town can take is to make sure that election information needs to be at top of <br />homepage on website. Recent inquiry from a citizen pointed out this discrepancy to the Town <br />Manager and it has been corrected. <br />Zeder on Civic Curriculum in Lexington Schools <br />• Lengthy piece will be summarized for the report <br />• Full piece will go in appendix <br /> <br /> <br />The March meeting will be March 15, 2024 at 10 AM by Zoom <br />Minutes submitted by <br />Margaret Coppe
