TOWN of ILEX/NG-TON <br />SPECIAL TOWN MEETING <br />MARCH 4,1932 <br />1] <br />The meeting was called to order by Town Clerk, James J. <br />Carroll, at 8:08 P. M. Moderator Robert H. Holt, being ab- <br />sent. <br />Senator Jos. R. Cotton was unanimously elected, to pre- <br />side at this meeting as Moderator Pro -tem. <br />Town Clerk James J. Carroll, started the reading of the <br />warrant for the meeting, when upon motion of Selectman Mr. <br />Trask, further reading of the warrant was waived, and the <br />Town Clerk continued by reading the Constable's return of <br />the warrant. <br />Selectman Mr. Trask, moved that article two be taken up. <br />Mr. Hollis Webster asked the question, if a quorum be <br />present. <br />The Moderator Pro -tem appointed the following tellers, <br />Custance, Dr. Walsh and Spencer to count the number of <br />Town Meeting members present, with the following results: <br />Custance 24 <br />Dr. Walsh 34 <br />Spencer 18 <br />76 <br />A quorum not being present, the Moderator advised sus- <br />pension of the meeting, ten minutes, in order to call in more <br />Town Meeting Members. <br />While waiting for a quorum Mr. Mitchell, Chairman of the <br />Appropriation Committee read and explained his report, also <br />explaining how the next tax rate, of .$30.0O was arrived at. <br />At nine o'clock a recount of the Town Meeting Members <br />was again taken by the same tellers, with the following re- <br />sults: <br />12 <br />ANNUAL REPORTS <br />Custance 27 <br />Dr. Walsh 44 <br />Spencer 27 <br />Moderator 1 <br />Town Clerk 1 <br />9:04 P. M. <br />106 <br />The Moderator read article two. <br />Selectman Mr. Trask offered the following motion : <br />Voted: That the sum of $38,350.06 be appropriated by the <br />Town to pay it's portion of the cosi of acquiring land and of <br />the construction and equipment and other expenses on account <br />of a hospital situated in Waltham, and partly in Lexington, <br />known as the Middlesex County Tuberculosis Hospital, re- <br />quired by Chapter 111 of the General Laws, as amended, and <br />also being further authorized by Chapter 369 of the Acts of <br />1928, as amended by Chapter 175 of the Acts of 1930 and Chap- <br />ter 73 of the Acts of 1931, and for this purpose the sum of <br />$38,250.06 be appropriated, of which $12,350.06 shall be as- <br />sessed in the levy of the current year, and the Town Treasurer, <br />with the approval of the Selectmen be and hereby is author- <br />ized to sell under the direction of and with the approval of <br />the Selectmen, bonds or notes of the Town in the amount of <br />$26,000.00 issued and payable as provided by Iaw. <br />Selectman, Mr. Trask, explained the vote, stating that the <br />cost of this hospital had been divided among the Cities and <br />Towns in Middlesex County, except Lowell and Cambridge, <br />who take care of their own patients, also stating notes would <br />be raised to cover half the cost to the Town, to be dated April <br />1, 1932. <br />Account of this item to be paid to the County Commis- <br />sioners, on or before March 25, 1932, this Special Meeting was <br />made necessary, in order to avoid a twelve per cent penalty. <br />Mr. Jas. G. Robertson, asked how the County Commis- <br />sioners arrived at the figures. <br />Selectman, Mr. Trask; explained, according to the valua- <br />tions of the other Cities and Towns in the County. <br />The vote was presented as read, with the following re- <br />sult : <br />e-sult: <br />
