<br />our Town in the preparation, execution
<br />and; presentation of an appropriate
<br />memorial certificate to each of our fellow -
<br />citizens who has been enrolled in the Mili-
<br />tary or Naval Service of our country in
<br />the World War and who has been honor-
<br />ably ;discharged; that inthose instances
<br />where our fellow -citizens have died while
<br />engaged in our country's service, such
<br />memorial certificate be presented to the
<br />parents or nearest relative of the deceased
<br />and that the Town Clerk be requested to
<br />preserve a record of all certificates pre-
<br />sented under the provisions of this resolu-
<br />tion."
<br />The above resolution was presented by
<br />Edwin A. Bayley, and was unanimously
<br />voted.
<br />19. Voted, that the sum of $500.00
<br />be appropriated and assessed, to be ex -
<br />ended under the direction of the Board
<br />f Water and Sewer Commissioners for
<br />the purpose of deepening, widening and
<br />straightening the various brooks of the
<br />Town, or any of them.
<br />Art. 44. Voted, that the sum of $238.54
<br />be transferred from the "Overlay 1%6"
<br />account to the aceount "Overlay 1917,"
<br />and that the amount of $596.22 be appro-
<br />priated and assessed to provide for the
<br />deficit in "Overlay 1917" account.
<br />Art. 40. Voted, that the Selectmen be
<br />and are hereby authorized to act with the
<br />Selectmen of Arlington in establishing
<br />a name for the public way running from
<br />'Lowell Street to the Arlington line, and
<br />'continuing into Arlington.
<br />Art. 35. It was voted that this article
<br />relative to an appropriation for the Sewer
<br />Department be indefinitely postponed.
<br />Art. 28. On motion of Daniel F. O'Con-
<br />nell, it was Voted, that the Town accept
<br />the provisions of Chapter 327 of the Acts
<br />of 1904.
<br />Art. 30. On motion of Arthur L. Blod-
<br />gett, it was Voted, that the sum of $100.00
<br />be appropriated and assessed for Middle -
<br />ex County Bureau of Agriculture and
<br />Home Economics, said sum to be paid
<br />oyer to said Bureau.

<br />Art. 32. On motion of Wm. S. Scamman
<br />it was Voted, that the Town accept and
<br />approve the layout of the following
<br />streets as made by the Selectmen, and that
<br />they be established as parts of the public
<br />highways of this town:
<br />1st. Lincoln Street, on northerly side,
<br />from a point- near the junction with
<br />School Street to a point nearly opposite
<br />Weston Street.
<br />2nd. At the junction of Lincoln and
<br />Middle Streets.
<br />3rd. At the junction of Hancock and
<br />Adams Streets.
<br />4th. At the junction of Merriam
<br />Street and Somerset Road.
<br />5th. Hancock Street, at a point east-
<br />erly from its junction with Bedford
<br />Street.
<br />Art. 15. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett it was voted that the sum of
<br />$150.00 be appropriated and assessed for
<br />the use of the Finance Committee.
<br />Art. 18. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, it was Voted, that the snm of
<br />$100.00 be appropriated and assessed for
<br />the use of the local company of the State
<br />Guard, to be expended under the direction
<br />of the Selectmen.
<br />Art. 17. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, it was Voted, that the sum of
<br />$9600.00 be appropriated and assessed for
<br />the suppression of Gypsy and Brown Tail
<br />Moths and for the extermination of other
<br />insects, the same to be expended under the
<br />direction of the Moth Department.
<br />Art. 16. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, it was Voted that the sum of
<br />$3000.00 be appropriated and assessed for
<br />the Park Department for the ensiling
<br />year.
<br />_Art. 22. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, it was Voted, that the sum of
<br />$900.00 is hereby appropriated and
<br />assessed for the payment to Town em-
<br />ployees who entered the Army or Navy
<br />Service of the United States during the
<br />Gelman War, the difference in compensa-
<br />tion received while in service and what
<br />they would have received if they had eon -

<br />tinned in the service of the Town accord-
<br />ing to a vote passed March 4, 1918, to ac-
<br />cept Chapter 254 of the General Acts of
<br />1917.
<br />Art. 23. This article relative to an ap-
<br />propriation for the Town Engineer's De-
<br />partment was briefly considered and it
<br />was voted to lay the article on the table
<br />pending the collecting of some figures re-
<br />garding the expense of a Town map.
<br />Art. 20. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, it was Voted, that the sum. of
<br />$1211.15 be appropriated and assessed to
<br />provide for the payment of pensions to
<br />Town veterans retired under Chapter 447
<br />of the Acts of 1912.
<br />Art. 24. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, it was Voted, that the sum of
<br />$1000.00 be appropriated and assessed for
<br />a Reserve Fund, said fund to be expended
<br />under1the direction of the Finance Come.
<br />mittee.
<br />Art. 10. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, is was Voted that the sum of
<br />$9750.00 be appropriated and assessed for
<br />the Support of the Street Lights for the
<br />ensuing year.
<br />Art. 25. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, it was Voted, that the sum of
<br />$225.00 be appropriated and assessed for
<br />Inspector of Milk, of which sum the sum
<br />of $200.00 shall be for the SaIar-y of the
<br />Milk Inspector.
<br />Art. 26. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, it was Voted, that the sum of
<br />$500.00 be appropriated and assessed for
<br />the Salary of the Inspector of Plumbing.
<br />Art. 29. This article, calling for an ap-
<br />propriation of money sufficient to provide
<br />pensions for permanent members of the
<br />Police Department, was laid on the table
<br />until the next adjourned meeting.
<br />Art. 8. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, it was Voted, that the sum of
<br />$7200.00 be appropriated and assessed for
<br />Outside Aid for the ensuing year, to be
<br />expended under the direction of the Over-
<br />seers of the Poor.
<br />Art. 13. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, it was Voted, that the sum of
<br />$1500.00 be appropriated and assessed for
<br />Sidewalks.
<br />Art. 5. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, it was Voted, that the sum of
<br />$250.00 be appropriated and assessed for
<br />Memorial Day, to be expended under the
<br />direction of George G. Mead, Post 119,
<br />G. A. R.
<br />Art. 27. On motion of Arthur L.
<br />Blodgett, it was Voted, that the sum of
<br />$1200.00 be appropriated and assessed for
<br />the compensation of the Inspector of
<br />Slaughtering.
<br />Art. 7. Voted, that the sum of $3650.00.;
<br />be appropriated and assessed for Support
<br />of Poor for the ensuing year, to be ex
<br />pended,under the direction of the Over-
<br />seers of the Poor.
<br />Art. 42. Voted, that the Selectmen be
<br />authorized to secure plans and estimates
<br />for a new fireproof vault or an addition
<br />to the present vault, said plans also to in
<br />elude any desirable changes in the ar-
<br />rangement of the office, and that the sum
<br />of $50.00 be appropriated and assessed'
<br />for the purpose.
<br />Art. 43. Voted, that the Town hereby;,`
<br />approve the widening of Bedford Street!`
<br />on the easterly side running approxi-
<br />mately 150 feet northerly from its junc
<br />tion with Elm Avenue as made by the
<br />Selectmen, September 11, 1918, and fur-?'
<br />ther voted that said widening be
<br />established as a part of the public high-
<br />way known as Bedford Street.
<br />At 9.40 o'clock P. M. it was voted to
<br />adjourn for one week at 7.30 o'clock.
