REPORT OF BOARD OF HEALTH <br />To THE CITIZENS OF LEXINGTON :-- <br />We respectfully submit the following annual report for the year <br />ending Dec. 31, 1911 ; — <br />The Board organized with William B. Foster, chairman, Ezra F. <br />Breed, clerk, and William L. Burrill. <br />The following appointments were made : Inspector of Plumbing, <br />Edwin Mills; Inspector of Meats, Provisions, and Animals, Harry <br />L. Alderman, D. V. S.; Licensed Undertakers, Arthur A. Marshall, <br />D. W. Grannan; care odorless cart, Ernest W. Martin. <br />The number of contagions diseases reported, 174. <br />Diphtheria, <br />Scarlet fever, <br />Whooping cough, <br />Measles, <br />Typhoid, <br />Varicella, <br />Tuberculosis, <br />Infantile paralysis, <br />Ophthalmia neonatorum, <br />4 <br />4 <br />58 <br />96 <br />4 <br />4 <br />2 <br />1 <br />1 <br />174 <br />Dr. Charles E. Simpson of Lowell is the State Inspector of Health <br />for this district, which is number nine. <br />The State Board of Health furnishes free of cost to physicians <br />who are registered a solution of silver nitrate; its use is expected to <br />prevent blindness of new -barn infants. <br />147 <br />During the year two bubbling fountains have been installed in <br />the town, one at East Lexington on Massachusetts avenue opposite <br />Middle street and one on the common. <br />All complaints have been investigated and adjusted as far as the <br />power of the local Board permits. <br />Complaints to the Board must be made in writing over the signa- <br />ture of the complainant. <br />The Board hereby expresses its appreciation of the support it has <br />received in many ways. <br />Appended is the report of the several officers appointed by the <br />Board, to which your attention is called. <br />Respectfully submitted, <br />138 <br />EZRA F.
