After remarks in favor by Fred H. Moulton, Arthur L. Blodgett, <br />William Roger Greeley, William T. Crowther and Wesley T. Wad- <br />man, and in opposition by Arthur E. Horton, the amendment was <br />carried and finally the motion of Mr. Putnam as amended by Mr. <br />Peirce was carried unanimously. <br />ART. 7. Additional appropriation for Board of Health. <br />Under this article, William B. Foster offered the following <br />motion :— <br />"That $550.00 be appropriated for the expenses of the Board of <br />Health, the money to be taken from the Bank and Corporation Tax." <br />And the town so voted. <br />ART. 6. Land in East Lexington for a new schoolhouse. <br />Under this article, Jay 0. Richards, for the committee, offered a <br />report recommending the purchase of a lot on Massachusetts avenue <br />adjoining the Stone building, and stating that the committee had <br />secured an option on the same. (See Reports of Committees.) <br />On motion of George F. Reed, the report was accepted. The <br />option referred to in the report was read by the Moderator. <br />Robert G. Ryder offered the following motion:— <br />"Voted that the town purchase the described parcel or parcels of <br />land referred to in Art. 6, now before the meeting, for the sum of <br />forty-five hundred and seventy-five dollars ($4575.00), and that said <br />amount be appropriated." <br />Mr. Ryder then offered the following amendment to his motion : --- <br />"That for the purpose of raising money to meet the appropriation <br />of $4575.40 for the purchase of land referred to in Art. 6 for school <br />and playground purposes, the Town Treasurer, with the approval of <br />the Selectmen, be authorized to issue the notes of the town, payable <br />$2300.00 in one year and $2275.00 in two years, with interest pay- <br />able semi-annually at a rate not exceeding four per cent per annum." <br />81 <br />The amendment was carried unanimously, and then the motion as <br />amended was carried by a vote of 124 in the affirmative and 0 in <br />the negative. <br />ART. 9. New cemetery. <br />On motion of Dr. Fred S. Piper, this article was indefinitely post- <br />poned. <br />The Moderator declared the meeting dissolved at 9 o'clock p. m. <br />A true record.
