At the close of the voting, six votes had been cast, all for Edwin <br />A. Bayley, and he was declared elected as moderator, and was sworn <br />by the Clerk. <br />ART. 5. Additional appropriation for support of schools. <br />Under this article, Arthur L. Blodgett offered the following :— <br />"Voted <br />—"Voted that the town appropriate the sum of thirteen hundred <br />dollars ($1300.00) for the support of schools, this sum to be bor- <br />rowed on the note of the town, payable in one (1) year from the <br />date thereof, with interest at not exceeding four (4) per cent per <br />annum, payable semi-annually." <br />Mr. Blodgett stated that the additional money was needed to pay <br />for fire escapes and repairs in the High school building, and for the <br />fitting up of a room in the Stone Building to be used for school pur- <br />poses. <br />The motion was carried by a vote of 77 in the affirmative and 0 in <br />the negative. <br />ART. 2. Committee reports. <br />Dr. Fred S. Piper, for the committee on new cemetery, made a <br />short verbal report, and offered the following motion:— <br />" Moved that a sum of two hundred dollars ($200.00) be appro- <br />priated from any unexpended balances in the treasury for the use of <br />the committee on new cemetery." <br />The town so voted unanimously. <br />ART. S. Additional appropriation for Fire Department. <br />Under this article, Bartlett J. Harrington offered the following <br />motion :— <br />"Voted <br />—"Voted that the sum of twelve hundred dollars ($1200.00) be <br />and hereby is appropriated for the running or operating and other <br />79 <br />expenses of the Fire Department, and that the 'Town Treasurer is <br />hereby authorized to borrow said sum on one note of the town, pay- <br />able in one year from the date, with interest at a rate of not exceed- <br />ing four per centum per annum, payable semi annually." <br />The motion was carried by a vote of 44 in the affirmative and 0 in <br />the negative. <br />ART. 3. To meet a deficiency in certain annual appropriations. <br />Under this article, Frank D. Peirce offered the following motion : -- <br />Voted that the unexpended balance of $9.64 now standing to <br />the credit of Improvements of Spaulding Land, be transferred to <br />the account of Sidewalks, and that the unexpended balance of $9.72 <br />now standing to the credit of New Drinking Fountain, the amount <br />of $49.51 remaining in the account of Repairs of Town Hall, and <br />$50.00 of amount standing to the credit of Hastings Park, making a <br />total of $109.23, be transferred to the account of Printing, and that <br />the amount of $550. be transferred from the Almshouse account to <br />that of Outside Aid." <br />The town so voted unanimously. <br />ART. 4. Hayes avenue and Somerset road. <br />Frank D. Peirce, on behalf of the Selectmen, offered a report <br />recommending the acceptance of Hayes avenue from Hancock <br />street to Merriam street, also Somerset road from Hayes avenue to <br />Merriam street. (See Reports of Committees.) <br />Charles R. Putnam then presented the following motion :— <br />" Voted <br />—"Voted that the report and layout of Hayes avenue and Somerset <br />road by the Selectmen be accepted, and the new ways be accepted <br />and established as public ways." <br />Frank D. Peirce moved to amend by adding to the end the <br />words, "when the same are satisfactorily deeded to the town." <br />
