25 <br />Sampson moved that the motion be indefinitely postponed. Mr. <br />E. P. Merriam moved that when the vote is taken it be by ballot <br />and that the • check list be used. Mr. E. A. Bayley offered an <br />amendment that the ballots be placed in the hands of the Town <br />Clerk for distribution, and the motion of Mr. Merriam as amended <br />by Mr. Bayley was carried. At the close of the polls the Moderator <br />announced the result as follows, in favor of postponement 218, <br />against postponement 215 and Mr. Clapp's motion was declared <br />lost. <br />On motion of Mr. G. W. Sampson it was <br />Voted, That Article 30 be indefinitely postponed. <br />On motion of Mr. E. P. Merriam it was <br />Voted, That when this meeting do adjourn it adjourn to <br />Monday evening March 23 at 7.30 o'clock P. M. <br />Meeting adjourned at 10.40 o'clock. <br />ADJOURNED MEETING MARCH 23, 1903. <br />Meeting called to order by the Moderator at 7.30 o'clock. Mr. <br />E. A. Bayley moved to take up Article 18 which was carried. <br />ART. 18. Mr. Bayley said he was not in favor of the motion <br />inserted in the article and would yield the floor to some person who <br />was. As nobody did so, Mr. Bayley offered the following motion : <br />"That the town hereby rescind the vote passed at a meeting held <br />January 29, 1900. under Article 2 of said meeting and substitute <br />therefor the following : That at the annual Town Meeting in March <br />1904, the town shall elect one Selectman for the term of one year, <br />and in March 1905 shall elect two Selectmen for the terra of one <br />year, and in March 1906 shall elect three Selectmen for the term of <br />26 <br />one year, and thereafter shall annually elect three Selectmen for the <br />term of one year in the manner in which the Selectmen have been <br />elected prior to the election of March 5, 1900." Mr. G. W. Samp- <br />son moved that Article 18 be indefinitely postponed, but afterward <br />withdrew his motion. Mr_ Bayley's motion was then put and <br />declared lost by a voice vote. <br />ART. 4. Under this article Rev. C. A. Staples made a verbal <br />report for the Committee on the publication of Town Records and <br />offered the following resolution which was adopted : " Whereas the <br />State of Mass. proposes to buy 500 copies of the Births, Marriages <br />and Deaths of Lexington recently printed by the town paying there- <br />for one cent per page for the book down to the year 1850, pro- <br />vided the town causes the same to be rebound and a transcript made <br />of the original records, and the copy deposited with the Secretary <br />of the Commonwealth." <br />Resolved, That the Committee on the publication of the Town <br />Records is hereby directed to comply with these requirements, and <br />make the sale according to the above terms. <br />ART. 29. Mr. G. W. Sampson offered the following motion : <br />"That the subject be left to the Surveyors of Highways with full <br />powers." <br />Mr. H. H. Putnam offered the following amendment : " With <br />the request that they give favorable consideration to establishing <br />minimum wages of $2.00 per day for a full days work." <br />After considerable discussion in which Messrs. Sampson, Parker, <br />Corbett, Putnam and Bayley took part, the motion of Mr. Sampson <br />as amended by Mr. Putnam was carried. <br />ART. 4. On motion of Mr. A. E. Locke it was <br />Voted, That the report of the Finance Committee be accepted. <br />ART. 7. On motion of G. H. Cutter it was voted, that $200.00 <br />
