C. Woodward, Henry W. Lewis, Charles H. <br />Lowe, which the Moderator ruled could not be counted as the war - <br />ant did not call for the election of three Selectmen for one year. <br />After the vote had been declared Geo. W. Sampson presented the <br />following protest. <br />LEXINGTON, March 2, 1908. <br />The undersigned legal voters of Lexington hereby protest against <br />the election to and occupancy of the office of Selectman by Edwin <br />S. Spaulding for a term of three years for the following reasons ; <br />24 <br />First, because under the law no Selectman can be elected for a <br />term of three years. <br />Second, because under the law the number of Selectmen should <br />be three, and the term of office should be for one year. <br />GEORGE W. WOODWARD. <br />The check lists used by the Moderator and Ballot Clerks <br />were sealed up and signed, the ballots cast were sealed and signed by <br />Moderator and Town Clerk and at 9.15 o'clock the Moderator de- <br />clared the meeting adjourned to Monday evening, March 9th at 7.30 <br />o'clock P. M. <br />ADJOURNED MEETING, MARCH 9, 1903. <br />Meeting called to order by the Moderator at 7.30 o'clock P. 'M. <br />On motion of G. W. Sampson it was voted to take up Article 30. <br />ART. 30. Mr. R. P. Clapp offered the following motion : "'That <br />this town prefers the system of electing Selectmen under which the <br />tenure of office is for three years instead of one, and that the <br />Selectmen are hereby requested to petition the Legislature for the <br />passage of an act which shall set at rest any and all questions which <br />have arisen as to the tenure of office of those now or lately acting <br />as Selectmen in Lexington, or as to the method or system now in <br />force for the election of Selectmen, to that end confirming the <br />several elections held on a three-year basis, and providing for the <br />continuation of said basis or method of election until the town <br />shall hereafter vote to return to the one year system.
