29 <br />that a committee of three be appointed to consider the matter of <br />street lighting, and report at an adjourned meeting, <br />Mr. R. R Clapp favored the motion but thought that the com- <br />mittee should be enlarged to five and that they should also consider <br />changes in locations of /amps and method of lighting. This amend- <br />ment was accepted by Mr. Sampson. <br />Voted, That a committee of five be appointed by the moderator, <br />to report at the adjourned meeting. <br />The moderator appointed as such committee the following : <br />Edward P. Merriam, Charles H. Franks, Henry W. Lewis, Geurge <br />D. Milne, William B. Foster. <br />ART. 20. To see whether the town would prefer to construct a <br />system of sewerage under Chapter 504 of the Acts of 1897, as <br />originally passed, or as amended by Chapter 451 of the Acts of <br />1899 ; and to pass any vote or votes relative to determining such <br />preference. <br />ART. 21. To see if the town will accept an act of the legislature <br />entitled "An act relative to the sewerage system of the town of <br />Lexington," said act being Chapter 451 of the Acts of 1899. <br />ART. 22. To take any other and further action relative to a <br />system of sewerage, or relative to any plan or method of defraying, <br />apportioning or assessing the cost of a sewerage system. <br />Mr. R. P. Clapp moved to take up Articles 20, 21 and 22, which <br />was seconded by Mr. G. W. Sampson, and it was so voted. <br />On motion of Mr. Clapp it was <br />Voted, That Articles 20, 21, and 22 be referred to a committee <br />of nine, with instructions to compare the respective methods of as- <br />sessment provided by the two legislative acts referred to, and to <br />30 <br />report with any recommendations to a future town meeting ; said <br />committee to be appointed by the moderator and to consist entirely <br />of citizens who have not been connected with the sewer board and <br />who have not been members of any committee of the town appointed <br />to consider the subject of a sewerage system or legislation therefor. <br />The moderator appointed as such committee the following : <br />Hiram G. janvrin, Henry W. Lewis, Roger 1. Sherman, John N. <br />Morse, Rufus W. Holbrook. Jas. Alex. Wilson, Dr. N. H. Merriam, <br />Timothy O'Connor, Jas. F. Russell. <br />ART. 14. To provide for the support of the fire department the <br />ensuing year, and grant money for the same. <br />Mr. E. J. B. Nourse of the fire engineers moved that $5,000 be <br />appropriated for expenses of the fire department the ensuing <br />year, and $300 for changes in fire alarm wires. <br />Mr. A. S. Mitchell moved that this motion be divided, which was <br />voted; and five thousand dollars ($5,000) was voted for the sup- <br />port of the fire department, but the town refused to appropriate <br />$300 for the fire alarm system. (See action at the adjourned meet- <br />ing March 19.) <br />Mr. Nourse further moved that $1,000 be appropriated for the <br />purchase of a pair of horses and pay of man at center station, <br />which the town declined to grant. <br />Art•r. 15. To see if the town will make the appropriations for <br />town expenses the ensuing year, as submitted by the selectmen, or <br />act in any manner relating thereto. <br />Mr..G. W. Sampson moved to take up the estimates for 1900, on <br />page 235 of the town report, which was done, and the town voted <br />on the same item by item and made appropriations as follows : <br />
