Hutchinson said that business remained to be <br />done under Articles 4, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 33. <br />ART. 4. Mr. C. G. Kauffmann for the committee on <br />engine house at East Lexington made the following report : <br />The committee appointed to investigate as to the neces- <br />sary changes in the engine house at East Lexington, beg <br />leave to make the following report : — <br />We find the accommodations for the proper housing and <br />management of the fire apparatus entirely inadequate. The <br />rooms are so low studded and the doors so narrow as to <br />make it dangerous to drive out, to both man and machine. <br />The sanitary conditions and stable for the horses are very <br />bad and the sleeping, room and heating apparatus unfit. <br />All of these things we are fully convinced should be <br />changed, and in order to accomplish the desired improve- <br />ments we would make the following recommendations : — <br />The building to be raised at least three feet and doors <br />made wider. <br />Proper drainage and cesspool provided. <br />Suitable room made above for man to sleep. <br />Water -closets built in upper and lower part of the build- <br />ing, and suitable heating apparatus furnished, either steam <br />or hot water, whereby the entire building can be heated. <br />New roof on stable, the same to be raised six feet. <br />We would further recommend that the sum of two thousand <br />dollars be appropriated for the purpose of carrying out <br />these changes. <br />CHARLES G. Smith it was <br />38 <br />Voted, That the report he accepted and its recommenda- <br />tions adopted and that the sum of two thousand ($2,000) <br />dollars be appropriated and assessed for the work, to be <br />done under the direction of said committee. <br />Mr. Teele for the committee on ventilating and lighting <br />High and Adams schoolhouses made a verbal report and <br />wanted an appropriation to procure plans in regard to <br />work, and read a letter from John T. White, inspector, as <br />to what was required, and on motion of Mr. J. H. Friz- <br />elle it was <br />Voted, That the report of the committee be accepted as <br />progressive. <br />On motion of Mr. C. G. Kauffmann it was <br />Voted, That one hundred and twenty-five ($125) dollars <br />be appropriated and assessed for use of committee in pro- <br />curing plans, etc., the committee to report at the next <br />town meeting. <br />Mr. J. F. Maloney called for report of selectmen on <br />Lowell street. <br />Mr. W. H. Whitaker for the selectmen made a report as <br />follows : — <br />At a hearing given in Cary Hall for the purpose of dis- <br />cussing the improvement of Lowell street, the selectmen <br />herewith submit the folio wino. report :— <br />After a careful inspection and due consideration of the <br />present condition of Lowell street, we find it a fairly good <br />street during the summer months, or when the road is dry <br />and free from frost. But during that period of time <br />
