To see if the town will make an appro- <br />priation of $200 for the proper observance of April <br />19, 1889, to be expended under the direction of a <br />committee of the Lexington Historical Society. <br />ART. 16. To see if the town will make an appro- <br />priation to construct sidewalks with concrete or <br />other material, where the abutters will pay one half <br />the expense thereof. <br />ART. 17. To see if the town will authorize the <br />Selectmen to draw from any unappropriated money <br />in the treasury for the payment of contingent <br />expenses. <br />ART. 18. To see if the town will make an appro- <br />priation towards sprinkling the streets of the two <br />villages during the coming season. <br />ART. 19. To see if the town will provide a read- <br />ing -room for the East Lexington Branch of the Cary <br />Library. <br />ART. 20. To see if the town will appropriate the <br />sum of i$250 for instruction in sewing in the schools. <br />ART. To see if the town will appoint a com- <br />mittee to report at the April meeting concerning a <br />new schoolhouse for Hancock School, or act in any <br />manner relating thereto. <br />ART. 22. To see if the town will make an appro- <br />priation for t -he payment of land damages, as awarded <br />by the County Commissioners, on account of improve- <br />ments on Main Street. <br />ART. 23. To see if the town will instruct the <br />Selectmen to petition the Legislature to amend the <br />act of incorporation of Cary Library so that the town <br />shall have a representation on its Board of Trustees. <br />8 <br />ART. 24. To see if the town will accept the ten <br />feet on the southeast side of Mount Vernon Street, <br />as given by Levi Prossor, making the street fifty feet <br />wide, instead of forty feet. <br />ART. 25. To see if the town will pay for placing <br />a water -closet in the Masonic apartment of the Town <br />Hall, or act in any manner relating thereto. <br />Arte. 26. To see if the town will appropriate the <br />sum of $200 for care and improvement of the ceme- <br />tery, or act in any manner relating thereto. <br />A RT.' 27. To see if the town will remit the <br />amount due for rent from the Lexington Savings <br />Bank, or act in any manner relating thereto. <br />Action on the various articles in the foregoing <br />warrant was taken, as follows: <br />ARTICLE 1. Voted, That the polls remain open <br />until 9.20 for choice of moderator. <br />On ballot with the check -list, Robert P. Clapp was <br />unanimously chosen moderator, and was sworn by <br />the clerk. <br />The moderator subsequently appointed as tellers <br />H. A. C. Woodward, L. E. Bennink, F. E. Ballard, <br />and Abram B. Smith, to assist in receiving and count- <br />ing the ballots, and they were also sworn by the <br />clerk. <br />ART. 2. The Committee on Water Supply made <br />a partial report (see Reports, of Committee, page <br />274), and asked for further time to examine the <br />subject, which was granted by the town till next <br />year. <br />Dr. J. 0. Tilton, for the Committee on Drainage, <br />made a report (Reports of Committee, page 276). <br />
