ENGINEERS' REPORT. <br />During the year ending at date, there were thirteen <br />fires and alarms, as follows: <br />Feb. 6th, 2 P.M. Fire in house occupied by Baron <br />Von Zeidlitz, on Bloomfield St. Department present. <br />Extinguished by Chemical engine. Insurance paid <br />on building, $153.00. Insurance paid on furniture, <br />$226.00. Cause, hot ashes in wooden box. <br />May 2d., 11. 30 P.M. House owned by heirs of <br />Benj. Fiske, Lowell St. Unoccupied. No alarm, and <br />Department not present. Loss, total. Value $600.00. <br />No insurance. Cause, incendiary. <br />May 3rd. Alarm given for fire in Wood -land <br />owned by Francis McGuire, Wood St. Extinguished <br />by Companies 2 and 3. <br />May 13th, 12-30 P.M. Alarm for fire in woods, <br />on estate of Dr. Lawrence, Waltham St. Depart- <br />ment present. <br />May 14th. Companies 2 and 3 called out by <br />alarm, caused by rekindling of fire on day previous. <br />No damage to property resulted from this fire. <br />June 25th, 1 A.M. Unoccupied house owned by <br />George Munroe, on Lowell and Woburn Streets. No <br />alarm given, and Department not present. The house <br />22 <br />destroyed was in a dilapidated condition and of little <br />value. No insurance. Cause, incendiary. . <br />July 46, 11 A.M. Fire on roof of house owned <br />by C. G. Kauffman, Maple Street. Department <br />present. Loss .$25.00. Insured. Cause, sparks from <br />locomotive. <br />August 26th, 11-30 P.M. Shanty, furniture and <br />tools, owned by Water Company, destroyed. No <br />alarm. Loss on shanty, $75.00. Loss on tools owned <br />by Gershom Swan $20.00 Cause, incendiary. No <br />insurance. <br />August 30th. Chimney -fire at house of Mrs. <br />Tobin, on Woburn Street. Extinguished by Chief <br />Engineer. No alarm. <br />In the last week of August, a fire broke out in <br />swamp between " Great Meadows" and Lowell turn- <br />pike in East Lexington, burning over many acres, and <br />lasting about five weeks. For a time, when danger <br />was apprehended to more valuable property, men <br />were hired to watch day and night. Fire finally was <br />trenched and burned itself out. <br />November 15th, 7-30 P.M. Fire in store of Smith <br />and Nourse, in Robinson's Block. Discovered and <br />extinguished by A. S. McDonald, an occupant of the <br />building. Damage trifling. Cause, accidental. <br />November 26th, 8 P.M. Fire in blacksmith's shop <br />occupied by R. T. Refuse. Extinguished without <br />alarm. Damage trifling. Cause, accidental. <br />December 8th, 9 P. M. Unoccupied house, owned <br />by Mary Nugent, Vine St. Engines 2 and 3 present. <br />
