Minutes of the Community Preservation Committee

Monday, April 3, 2017
Harris Room
Cary Memorial Building
1605 Massachusetts Avenue
7:00 PM

Committee Members Present: Marilyn Fenollosa (Chair); Dick Wolk (Vice-Chair), Norman
Cohen, Charles Hornig, David Horton, Jeanne Krieger, Bob Pressman, Sandra Shaw, Melinda
Walker.

Administrative Assistant: Elizabeth Mancini

Other Attendees: Carol Kowalski, Assistant Town Manager for Land Use, Health and
Development; Melissa Battite, Director of Recreation and Community Programs; Peter
Coleman, Assistant Director of Recreation.

Ms. Fenollosa called the meeting to order at 7:00 PM.

1) Town Pool Project- Ms. Fenollosa announced that she was recently notified of a change
to the Town Pool Project, expected to go before Town Meeting that evening. Bids for
the project exceeded the CPA request by approximately $500,000. She advised that an
additional CPC meeting would be required since the Recreation Committee planned to
meet in the coming days to discuss the increase. Due to the developments, the article
would not be presented to Town Meeting that evening but would be pushed back to a
later session.

2) Stone Building Feasibility Study- Ms. Fenollosa explained to the CPC that the Board of
Selectmen requested this project be indefinitely postponed. Ms. Fenollosa offered her
thoughts on the request, noting that it came late in the process. She thought it would
be most beneficial to have an outside party study the building, instead of a citizens
committee which was the idea proposed by the Selectmen. After additional discussion
and a motion duly made and seconded, the CPC voted (6-3) to support the indefinite
postponement of article 10(h).

3) Update to Report to 2017 Annual Town Meeting- Due to the decision by the Committee
to indefinitely postpone the Stone Building Feasibility Study, an updated report to Town
Meeting would need to be issued. After a motion duly made and seconded, the CPC
voted (9-0) to approve an update be issued prior to the start of the next Town Meeting
session.
