Lexington Special Education Parent Advisory Council (SEPAC) <br />Lexington Special Education Parent Teacher Association (SEPTA) <br />Business Meeting Minutes <br />March 7, 2017 <br />Attendees: Jennifer Yaar, Kathy Cunningham, Robin Abrams, Ann Wolf, Lisa O'Brien, Bettina <br />McGimsey, Mona Roy, Barbara White <br />Location: Lexington Community Center, Room 237 <br />Call to order: 9:06 am <br />Adjourned: 10:25 am <br />Approvals <br />• Minutes from 1/10/17 Business Meeting were unanimously approved. <br />Reports of Officers <br />• Treasurer Report: <br />o As of the end of February, our balance is $4,328 <br />o In January, we collected one membership and bank interest for a total of $24.05. No <br />expenses in January. <br />o In February, we collected 4 memberships and bank interest for a total of $72.27. <br />o Outstanding expenses for February include: <br />■ $82 misc meeting expenses <br />■ $200 Honorarium check for Nadine Gaab - speaker for Dyslexia group in April. <br />• Membership report: there are currently 100 SEPAC/SEPTA members <br />Other Business <br />• Bettina McGimsey provided an update on the Dyslexia Task Force from the presentation by <br />Ellen Sugita and Kelly Chase to the School Committee. <br />o 36k has been allocated to fund two pilot programs for early screening (Bowman will <br />pilot the program in the 2017-2018 school year). <br />o Second pilot is scheduled for Bridge kindergarten screening using Predictive Assessment <br />of Reading (PAR) with pre -k students to flag issues prior to kindergarten. <br />o LPS will continue to do training for Landmark/Math, Wilson, and Orton -Gillingham. <br />o Dyslexia Task Force will meet again in May. <br />o First Peer -to -Peer Mentoring meeting was a success -10 kids and mentors met, <br />organizers hope this event will be repeated. <br />o Over 108 teachers have completed voluntary dyslexia training. <br />
