• Connections to the larger community <br />• Dedicated health room for wellness visits, podiatry, massage therapy <br />• Technology lab for training <br />• Therapeutic programming for people with disabilities <br />• Appropriate space for fitness classes <br />• Activities and programs that appeal to all seniors <br />• Natural and typical gathering place with refreshments <br />Recreation Department <br />(Karen Simmons, Director) The Recreation Department operates on an enterprise <br />fund; fees cover all of their operating costs for programming and facilities. It <br />maintains the town pools, the Old Res, Pine Meadows Golf Course, neighborhood <br />and Center parks, tennis courts, and athletic fields on and off school grounds. It has <br />five full -time and 175 seasonal, part -time staff. In FY 2011 it had 255 volunteers <br />who contributed 5,400 hours to the community. <br />Problems <br />• Unpredictability of space: last - minute school needs for their space causes <br />cancellation or relocation of recreation programs that are scheduled into <br />school rooms <br />• Lack of storage space limits ability to offer programs with a lot of equipment <br />• Lack of sufficient space limits ability to offer programs of all kinds <br />• Summer programs end early to accommodate school schedules <br />Needs <br />• Dedicated program space and storage space <br />• More effective partnering with Lexington departments <br />• Therapeutic programming <br />• Large, indoor space for programming and community gatherings <br />• Drop -in activities for all ages <br />Cary Memorial Library <br />(Koren Stembridge, Director) Cary Memorial Library is community treasure.
