The meeting began at 7:00pm in the LHS Library Media Center Absent:Jimmy Athens,Kristina Hankins,Sonal Setty,Jack Gehring,Tasneem Ghadiali,Sarah Kochi,Alexis Chen,Sarah Chen,Hannah Kieval,Margot Byers,Keya Doshi,Shannon DeGuglielmo Present:Debra Hankins,John Kefalas,Duncan Maloney,Sofia Saleeby,Charlie Swan,Sadie Maloney,Kimly Nguyen,Sophie Read,Eliza Babson,Arden Carney,Nina Arnold,Victoria Wu, Alice Ma,Tom Romano,Gabriella Costello,Adeline Favazzo,Eva Benet,Ava Kieval,Sarah Beuttell,Aaron Yu,Sophie Glavine,Doug Lucente,Izzy Barbesino,Owen Rosenthal,Meera Krishnan. 1.Read and Approve November Meeting Minutes -Sofia read the November meeting minutes which were approved by the committee. 2.Debrief Turkey Dinner Deliveries -Charlie and Ava discussed some issues they had,going forward we will make sure that the recipient's phone numbers are on the address labels for next year. -Everyone was able to deliver all their dinners and had a good experience. -Families were thankful and excited to receive the dinners,some members even received thank you notes.We had a record #of deliveries in a record 60 minutes. We took a brief intermission and sang happy birthday to Owen Rosenthal 3.Debrief Depot Square Tree Lighting/Santa -The committee members who participated in Tree Lighting had a great time,the residents who attended the event loved the costumes,the bells,and the general holiday spirit of the event. -Maddie Lucente,our LYC Alumni set the tone along with the committee members, singing holiday songs,and having great audience participation. - 4.Debrief Toys For Tots -This was a very good event with an awesome turnout by both committee members,and toy donations.We had quite a few members who not only donated their time,but donated toys too. -The Toys for Tots coordinator told Detective Sowle that we were one of the top collectors in our area. Many members were there dressed in Christmas costumes (snowmen,gingerbread, polar bears,the grinch,and more collecting toys,taking pictures with kids,and spreading joy throughout the center. -Thank you to those who brought toys,donated money,and helped the LPD and Youth Commission have a successful toy drive for children in need in town. 5.Debrief Folmad’s Mailing -We labeled 3900 envelopes,followed by pizza and cookies (Thank you Sara Kochi for the delicious cookies) 6.Valentine Service Project -Deb will have the cards for the next meeting -This event is where we all fill out 15-2-Valentines Day cards that with handwritten notes to be distributed to our nursing homes in town and at the Valentine Luncheon at the Community Center in February. -There will be more information to come in the upcoming January meeting 7.Senior Luncheons -This event will take place during Valentines day and/or Saint Patrick's day -This is where we serve lunch and eat with the Seniors -If you say you can come,please come!! -More information to come next meeting -not sure on all the details 8.Tom’s Time -The department is hiring for the summer where Sarah Kochi worked last summer!Great pay,lots of fun,see Tom if interested. -There are upcoming half-day trips for the middle schoolers in which Tom is in need of high school chaperones.high school students to work or get community service hours. 9.Closing Comments -Sofia mentioned School the World that Tom has sent an email about.This is where you can take trips to Guatemala,Panama,or Honduras and help in the final week of building a school for the children in the community. -There are trips during February break,April break,and two different times over the summer. -Deb talked about the MLK event.This is not sponsored by LYC but it is a great opportunity if you would like to participate.She gave out a MLK handout,and will have more copies at the January meeting, Respectfully submitted, Sofia Saleeby
