Minutes:TheminutesfromtheApril29,2016meetingwereapprovedwiththefollowingchanges:add ClaireDƚƚķǞźƓ͸ƭnameaspersontakingminutes,includeMarianCohenasavisitorratherthana member. InputforBoardofSelectmengoalSettingbasedonformatpreviouslydistributed:Danemailedthe grouphisproposedsubmissiontotheBoardofSelectmen.Dansaidhehadtwogoals,inordertomake participationoncommitteesclear,hewouldliketoseeaclearcharter.Intermsofformulatingapolicy forthis,DanwouldliketoseetheBOSberesponsivetoĭƚƒƒźƷƷĻĻƭ͸recommendations,evenifitisto declineit,ratherthanignoreit.FernandosaidthiswouldbemoredirectedattheBOSratherthana goal.Dansaiditwillhelpattractnewmemberstocarefullyconsiderwhichcommitteetheywouldwant tojoin.Elainesaidshethoughtitwouldencourageyoungerpeopletogetinvolved.PeterE.saidone pointthatisimportantforacommitteeisthediversityofthegroupwithcomplementaryskills.Peter ķƚĻƭƓ͸ƷwantcommitteestogoͻƚǝĻƩĬƚğƩķͼonbeingtoofocusedontheexactskillsorinterestareas neededwhichmayturnothersoff.Danreadhisinputtothegroup.Joesaidtheactionforthisgoal wouldbetoformacommitteetotackleit.Andrewsaiditwouldbegreatiftherewasawebpagewhich informsresidentsofthevariousopportunitiesavailableonacommitteeorvolunteerpositioninaone stopshoplocation.Alanexpressedconcernsaboutthenumberofcommitteestoallfitononepage. Petersaidperhapshavingalinktoeachcommitteewithvacancieswouldbehelpful.Fernandoasked thatthegroupapprove5ğƓ͸ƭrecommendation.Thegroupapproved5ğƓ͸ƭrecommendations. Workinggrouponissuesofsocialdiversity:Fernandosaidtheproblemquestionisthematterofthe Townmovingtowardsapopulationwithlesseconomicdiversityandsocialdiversity.Mariansaidsheis stillhappytohelp.PetersaidtheprojectconnectsnicelywiththeCommunityDivisivenessproject. Demographicchangeandeconomicdiversityisbecomingacontentiousissueandwillbethenextlarge 1 challengefortheTown.Mariansaidbeforedevelopingthesurvey,gettingdatafromtheSocialDiversity groupaswellasupdatedcensusdatawillbeuseful.Fernandoremindedthegroupaboutfundingcycles andthefundingfortwosurveysagowasallocatedbutnotusedsowasgivenbacktotheTown.Joesaid aProgramImprovementRequestwillneedtobesubmittedaroundSeptember.Peterwillbethepoint persontosubmitinformationforthebudgetandwillworkwithClaire.Clairesaidshedoesthe ĭƚƒƒźƷƷĻĻƭ͸budgetssocanbehelpfulincommunicatingkeydates. PetersaidbeforeJune,aconferencecallshouldbecalledwithmembersoftheSocialDiversitytaskforce todevelopsomenextstepsonwhattoaccomplishoverthesummer.Mariansaidthegroupshouldaim tosubmitthesurveytotheTownbyDecembertotakeadvantageoftheŭƩƚǒƦ͸ƭSurveyMonkey subscription.ThequestionsmustbecompletedbySeptember. SubcommitteeonAsianCommunities:Dansaid25outof66peoplecompletedthesurveyand ağƩźğƓ͸ƭstudentshavecompletedtheanalysisonthesurvey.Dansaidinterviewshavebeenscheduled withthankstoCathySeveranceandMiriamSouza.MiriamSousascheduledthecallsforMaryandBill. DansaidthatMaryCzajkowskiandBillHurleyweregettingideasforfutureinclusionandhowstudents handleacademicstressbasedontheinterviews.Dansaidtheinvitationhasbeenextendedtothe SuperintendentandPresidentoftheBoardofTrusteesoftheWalnutValleyUnifiedSchoolDistrict, whichservesDiamondbar,CAandtoamemberofaPTAwhoisifChineseancestrytovisitLexington. Peteraskedhowthelinkaboutacademicstresswasmade.Joesaidacademicstresswillbesomething presentineverycommunity.Mariansaidtheliteratureisstrongwhereinhighperformingschools beingplaceswithhigherstressenvironments.Also,familieswithAsianheritagehavehigher expectationstoperformwellinschool.JudithremindedthegroupabouttheChineseAmericangroup inLexingtonhostingastressreductionworkshopyearsagoandtheorganizerwouldbeagoodresource, EileenJay. Dansaidnotesarebeingtakenduringtheinterviews.Peteraskedifthesearepublicrecordsandhe thinkstheyarebutwondersiftheintervieweeisawarethattheinfowouldbepublishedpublically. Marianwonderswhatkindofunderstandingwashadwiththem.Usuallypeopledonotpostthe interview,butwouldpostasummary,anditwouldremainconfidential.JudithsaidiftheTownemails wereused,thanitisalreadypublicrecord.Alansaidiftheintervieweeknewitwillbepublic,theymay notbeascandidintheirresponses.Petersaiditmaybemoreneutraltolistthecommunitieswhich wereinterviewed,thengivetheconfidentialsummaryoftheinterview.Thequestionis,ͻƷƚwhatextent arethenotesDanistakingpublicƩĻĭƚƩķͪͼMariansaidthereisthelegalandtheethicalquestion.
