Chair Paul O’Shaughnessy called the June 1, 2023 Historic Districts Commission meeting to order
at 5:04pm.
FORMAL HEARING
Chair Paul O’Shaughnessy opened the formal hearing for 1575 Massachusetts Avenue, exterior
alterations (Wireless Communications Facility) in the Battle Green Historic District

Full plan set of proposed alteration: dated May 18, 2023
Lexington COFA HDC-22-39: dated November 3, 2022
The applicant explained the proposed location of this wireless communication facility will be the east side
of the existing tree canopy behind Police Station.
The Board felt the proposed changes were appropriate.
Dawn McKenna stated that the overall site plan was needed to consider.
Motion was granted and seconded to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior changes to
1575 Massachusetts Avenue. Motion carried, all in favor.

CONTINUED HEARING
Chair Paul O’Shaughnessy opened the continued hearing for 1575 Massachusetts Avenue, exterior
changes (Solar Carports) in the Battle Green Historic District

Updated plans: dated May 31, 2023
The applicants explained the updated plans of solar carports and compared all proposed options of the
project to request a scheme design direction. The Commission agreed to table this application to next
meeting with landscape plan in collaboration with the neighborhood.
Marcia Gens, 16 Dane Rd, Tom Shiple, 18 Phinney Rd, Pamela Lyons, 51 Grant St, Lin Jensen, 133 Reed
St, Todd Rhodes, 482 Marrett Rd, Ricki Pappo, 16 Blossomcrest Rd, Tina McBride, 45 Turning Mill Rd,
the Sustainable Lexington Committee stated their support the approval of a police station solar carports.
Ted Page and Nancy Page, 6 Fletcher Ave, stated Fletcher neighborhood and Fletcher park needs to be
considered, and the scale of Solar Carports should also be considered.
Dawn McKenna, 9 Hancock St, stated that the Police Station should not be blocked, and the arches design
did not respect those straight lines.
Jonathan Himmel, 66 Hancock St, stated his concerns regarding the design details, like height.
David Williams, 1505 Mass Ave, stated he was not notified. But it was confirmed that he was notified as

abutters by mail on May 22, 2023.

alterations (Lighting for Monument) in the Battle Green Historic District

The applicants explained the proposed lighting for LexSeeHer Monument at 1875 Mass Ave.
The Commission agreed that the plans were appropriate.
Dawn McKenna, 9 Hancock St, stated that she supported the monument generally.
Wendy Rosenburg, 16 Garfield St, and Lin Jensen, 133 Reed St, stated their supports of this project and
the proposed lighting work.
Motion was granted and seconded to issue a Certificate of Appropriateness for exterior changes to
1875 Massachusetts Avenue. Motion carried, all in favor with Lee Noel Chase Abstention.
Chair Paul O’Shaughnessy opened the formal hearing for 960 Massachusetts Avenue, exterior
alterations (Additions) in the East Village Historic District
