Discussion of Policy Manual sections to be reviewed in FY16 We discussed the work of 2014 -15. Jim Hardy of MASC recommended reviewing four sections of the Policy Manual annually. We shall choose four policy manual sections to review based on greatest overlap with those policies identified to be reviewed by Dr. Czajkowski balanced with their size. This will be in addition to Dr. C's selections and those policies flagged as needing further review from any previous year, identified as Hold Policies. 2. Review and Discussion of the following policies: • DO - Scholarship and Awards: possible need for better communication with staff. • IHCFA - Extended Day Programming: discussed upcoming new contract needs for 2016 -2021 bid process • JCAA - Redistricting: Restructure • JQ -A - Financial Assistance: The meat of the policy is listed in the 7 numbered goals. The policy to be district centric and items had been removed that addressed individual departments such as Guidance, Athletics, etc. Some continued reformatting of the document could make it appear closer to other current LPS policies. • JQ -R - Demand for Payments - on hold for new superintendent • BDFA - Site -Based School Councils: under membership, discussed changes to better reflect equal representation from parents, staff, and community /student members. • Lexington Policy Hold List - o JKAA - Restraint of Student o JKF - Discipline of Students with Special Needs o IKF - Graduation Requirements • Superintendent Working List - this list includes some policies recommended by Jim Hardy of MASC that our new Superintendent may want to review. 3. LPS Website - SC Policy layout. Began the discussion of how best to format the School Committee's Policy Manual web site page. We referenced best practices of MASC and the peer community of Needham. A chief question is if minutes should be found on a School Committee policy page or fall under a subheading on a general School Committee minutes page. 4. Review of minutes from June 16 - accepted as amended 5. Next meeting date - check with Dr. C as to her availability and members discussed their general availability. The meeting adjourned at 11:10 am. Respectfully submitted, Judy Crocker
