Lexington has received $2,670,500 in MassWorks grants over the last ten <br /> years for various intersection and sidewalk improvements. In the first year of non-compliance, the Lexington <br /> Housing Authority could lose approximately $31,000 in State Operating Subsidy(10.6%)which support its annual <br /> budget as well as DHCHD Capital Project Funds. <br /> JUSTIFICATION FOR RECOMMENDATION <br /> The zoning overlay districts established under Article 34: <br /> • Are consistent with multiple goals, objectives, and directives from the 2022 Lexington NEXT <br /> Comprehensive Plan: <br /> o Goal 1: To promote the diversity, equity, and inclusion of people visiting, living, and working in <br /> Lexington. <br /> ■ Remove barriers to living in Lexington (objective 1.1) <br /> o Goal 2:To promote a wide range of housing options: <br /> ■ Produce a range of housing types in a variety of locations throughout town (objective 2.1) <br /> ■ Increase the supply of subsidized housing (objective 2.2) <br /> ■ Increase the effectiveness of housing efforts (objective 2.6) <br /> ■ Affirmatively further fair housing (objective 2.9) <br /> o Goal 3: To promote a vital economy, including a variety of small and large businesses that <br /> contribute to the tax base and provide goods and services to meet the needs of residents, <br /> employees, and visitors. <br /> ■ Encourage private redevelopment in large commercial areas, making them more exciting <br /> (objective 3.1) <br /> ■ Improve Lexington Center so that it becomes more of a destination (objective 3.3) <br /> ■ Retain and support existing businesses and evaluate opportunities for commercial growth <br /> in strategic locations (objective 3.4) <br /> o Goal 7: To make traveling into Lexington safe, pleasant, and efficient with sustainable and <br /> equitable mobility options for all ages and abilities. <br /> ■ Adopt land use policies that advance the town's transportation goals (objective 7.5) <br /> • Develop zoning that will create housing production.
