HomeMy WebLinkAbout2022-10-19-LEX250-minSemiquincentennial Commission (Lex250) October 19, 2022 Meeting Minutes Pursuant to notice duly filed with the Town Clerk, the Semiquincentennial Commission (Lex250) convened in a meeting via Zoom video conference on Thursday, October 19, 2022 at 4:04 pm as allowed by legislation (S.2475) extending the suspension of certain provisions of the Massachusetts Open Meeting Law. Present:Mona Roy (Community Representative), Jillian Tung (Music & Arts Representative), Barry Cunha (Business Representative), Suzie Barry (Select Board Member), Julie O’Leary (Civic Representative), Cerise Jalelian (Town Celebrations Committee Representative) Paul O’Shaughnessy (Historical Organization Representative) Guests: Mike McKenna from Shields PR Consulting Firm, Jane Hundley (LPS Grade 6-8 Social Studies Department Head) The meeting was called to order at 4:04 pm by Ms. Barry. 1.Shields presentation and discussion led by Mike McKenna a.Discussed approaches that other towns and tourism organizations used in their websites to promote their locations and draw visitors b.Provided recommendations for Lexington i.Goal should be to have stunning, vivid visuals with well-organized, uncluttered content, beautiful graphic design and great typography ii.Consider target demographics iii.The visuals and content could be changed over the course of the year iv.Discussed possible ways to organize the site 1.Sections for events, dining, kids/families, places to stay 2.Possibilities for accepting donations 3.Encourage participation with social media v.The website could remain in use after the 250th anniversary vi.The site could incorporate an interactive calendar of events vii.Adjunctive marketing would expand the reach of the site c.Commission members asked questions and participated in discussion about site possibilities d.Members underscored the importance of having a site that is inclusive and accessible 2.Special Town Meeting Warrant article update a.Article 8 b.Town meeting is scheduled for November 1st, 2nd, 3rd; the town moderator may give us a scheduled time slot on the 1st c.Mr. McKenna plans to be present at Town Meeting d.Ms. Barry discussed preparations for the presentation and underscored that we should continue to reach out to other town organizations for support and endorsements e.Ms. Barry shared a promotional video created by Mr. Conners for distribution to Town Meeting members f.Ms. Roy will reach out to attendees of the October 12 kick off meetings to ask for letters of support 3.A motion to approve the minutes of the October 6, 2022 meeting was made by Ms. Roy, seconded by Mr. Cunha, and approved by roll call vote 4.Monument update: potential sites are currently being considered 5.Upcoming Lex 250 meetings: November 2, November 16, December 7; All are at 3:30 pm on Wednesdays 6.A motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Mr. Cunha, seconded by Ms. Jalelian and approved by roll call vote at 5:24 pm Respectfully submitted, Jillian Tung
