Superintendent Screening Committee VOTE: The Minuteman School Committee accepts and approves the following documents, to be used as part of the screening and appointment process for the next Superintendent/Director of Minuteman(as provided to the School Committee;the updated application was sent out last night). i. Invitation to Apply ii. Superintendent Application iii. Minuteman Superintendent Profile iv. Minuteman District Profile Ford Spalding, Superintendent Screening Committee Chair, thanked members and expressed his appreciation for their attendance at this extra School Committee meeting noting that it is an important meeting to assist the Committee in moving the process of the Superintendent search forward. He provided an outline of each document and reported that all documents will be posted on the Minuteman website on October 151, as well as the Massachusetts Association of School Committee's website with all applicant's information to be directed to the Massachusetts Association of School Committees. The Invitation to Apply details the qualifications, selection criteria, Superintendent's profile, and states that the contract and salary will be negotiated later, as well as Minuteman District Profile and website information. It also highlights the timeline, which is our ideal timeline, as he informed members of the Superintendent Screening Committee that the months of November and December will be very busy, as we will try to stick to that timeline goal as best we can. The second document, the Application for the Position of Superintendent/Director, is a straight-forward application, except for page 4 which includes questions 6, 7, and 8 and requires the applicant to do some thought-provoking work and provide us with some additional critical thinking information, rather than just filling out an application. The third document, the Minuteman Superintendent Profile, was developed by the members of the School Committee after their two retreats and noted that some of the language was fine-tuned. Mr. Spalding shared that he met with seven members of the faculty and staff who provided some suggestions. He believes this is the most valuable document and suggested that the members of the Screening Committee, as well as the School Committee, will base their decisions on this document,in addition to the interviews. The fourth document, the Minuteman District Profile, is additional information for the applicant, rather than searching through the website, and highlights our demographics, enrollment, and other valuable information. Ms. Leone commented that the documents are excellent, the work done at the retreat was spot on and the language expresses what we are looking for. -2- Ms. Crocker agreed with Ms. Leone's comments and added her gratitude. Mr. Spalding thanked Ms. Nourse, Ms. DeLuca, Mr. Koocher, and Mr. O'Brien. Mr. Koocher commented to Mr. Spalding that this is the most thorough job he has seen. Ms. Leone inquired about the membership of the Screening Committee and shared that she is excited. Mr. Spalding stated that it was an excellent Committee. He added that the members will be listed on the website, though only contact information for Mr. Spalding and Mr.Koocher will be included. Candidates will not be allowed to contact any members of the Committee. He detailed that the membership of the Screening Committee includes four School Committee members (four of whom have been Chair and three of whom have participated in previous searches),four teachers and administrators representing CTE, academics, Special Education and the administration, two current parents who are very involved, two town officials, the Concord moderator who had also been active in Minuteman on the School Building Committee, the Town Administrator in Arlington, as well as a representative from work force development. He noted that all our communities are represented, and Ms. DeLuca is representing the Nashoba District(Lancaster, Stow, and Bolton). Ms. Nourse reported that the Screening Committee held their first in-person meeting recently, which included a tour of the school and that it was an excellent start.Mr. Spalding added that it is a great group who are very engaged.
