Pursuant to Governor Baker’s March 12, 2020 Order Suspending Certain Provisions of the Open Meeting Law, G.L. c. 30A, §18, and the Governor’s March 15, 2020 and subsequent Orders imposing strict limitation on the number of people that may gather in one place, this meeting of the Lexington Commission on Disability will be conducted via remote participation to the greatest extent possible. Specific information and the general guidelines for remote participation by members of the public and/or parties with a right and/or requirement to attend this meeting can be found below. No in-person attendance of members of the public will be permitted, but every effort will be made to ensure that the public can adequately access the proceedings in real time, via technological means. (*As per Executive Order regarding remote participation: https://www.mass.gov/doc/open-meetinglaw-order-march-12-2020/download) Please be advised that the House and Senate enacted Senate Bill 2475 last night and Governor Baker signed the bill, which will allow the continuation of remote public meetings until April 20, 2022. The reading was followed by an oral roll call. Announcements: There was a shooting in Lexington of a person with disabilities by police in response to a report of a man with a knife. The Commission will hold a special meeting about this later to talk about collaborative reform. A moment of silence was held for Brandon and his family. This was a very unfortunate tragic incident. Victoria has reached out to police and family. Minutes: Approval of December minutes was unanimous. Presentation of new police station: Mark Barrett, Public Facilities with Jeff McElravy and Matt Salad from Tecton Architects presented the plans for the new police station. The plan is to relocate to 45 Bedford temporarily while old station is demolished and then build the new one possibly expanding Fletcher Field. The plans were reviewed with access to all rooms, automatic door openers, elevators, room for social workers, a 40-seat meeting room and 8-9 HP parking spaces. The Commission asked for a more direct path from the parking to the front door. 2 Update by Pamela Lyons of bus shelter in Depot Square: Pamela showed pictures of bus shelter as approved by HDC. The Commission approved the plans. Discussion about committee liaisons: The Commission has Elaine Dratch, from Transportation Advisory Committee now, joining: Pam Lyons, Center Committee; Stephanie Hsu, Human Rights Committee; Bonnie Teitleman-Levin, Council on Aging; Rod Cole, Capital Expenditure Committee. Update about Pandemic Effects Work Group: Stephanie Hsu, HRC liaison, shared that the working group has put up a form survey on the web sites of the Commission and the HRC. New business: As a response to the shooting incident, the Commission would like to bring the community groups together to review what happened and how to make a comprehensive plan for the future. There is room in the new police station for social workers. Next is to get the budget necessary to hire staff to be integrated there.
