A motion was made, seconded and voted to an rove <br /> this Budget in the amount of '4,532.40. <br /> Board of Health - Mosquito Control Project - Total <br /> Approved 3,000.00. <br /> A motion was made, seconded and voted to approve <br /> this Budget in the amount of `0,000.00. <br /> At 8:30 P.M. , Mr. Joseph DeFoe , Superinten 'ent of <br /> Public works, and Col. Henry B. Barry, Vere admitted to this <br /> meeting. At the time of their admittance to this meeting <br /> the Committee was looking over the Highway Department - Road <br /> Machinery - Cani tat outlay Budget, so Chairman Hoyt asked <br /> Yr. Devoe to speak on this particular Budget. <br /> Yr. DeFoe stated that the Government at the present <br /> time is selling new power shovels for -;31500.001 and what he <br /> would like to dois to see lust what could be p'archased in <br /> the way of new equipment from the Government, as this would <br /> be a considerable saving to the Town. Chairman Hoyt asked <br /> 7r. DeFoe if the trucks requested in this Budget, and the <br /> Present equipment would be able to take care of snow storms <br /> without hiring outside trucks. Mr. DeFoe stated that he <br /> didn' t believe this was possible as the Colonel had explained <br /> previously. ' It requires t' enty-four trucks to take care of <br /> a snor storm, and these trucks are divided into twelve <br /> districts. <br /> The next Budget that Chairman Hoyt asked Mr. DeFoe <br /> to exnlai.n was water Construction - Sundry Streets - Elimination <br /> of DDead. Ends - at a cost of X86,637.50. Mr. Hoyt asked <br /> whether it was the Intention of 1-r. DeFoe to have the Town <br /> do this work, or would it be put )ut for contract. Mr. DeFoe <br /> stated that he felt that the Town should do this work, as it <br /> would be possible for them to do one Dead End at a time, and <br /> he personally thought that war the way to handle it. Mr. DeFoe <br /> and Colonel Barry had nothing further to say before this <br /> Committee, so they left at 9:55 P.M. <br /> At 10:00 P.v. ; the Committee on Tennis Courts con- <br /> sisting of Rev. Handley, George Morse , Frank Perkins, and <br /> three others, entered this meeting. <br /> George Morse acted as Chairman and stated that this <br /> Committee was interested in having clay tennis courts in <br /> Lex' n-ton. The nreaent courts are asnhalt, and not Proper <br /> courts for good tennis. Mr. Horse stated that he had spoken <br /> to Tir. Garrity and Mr. Garrity was the one who suggested the <br /> Committee get busy and submit a report. This Comm-ttee had <br /> been before the Selectmen this evening, and they sug'ested they <br />
