The P.T.A. have received 677 <br /> signatures on a petition for a kindergarten in the schools <br /> of Lexington. 355 families who signed this petition have <br /> children eligible for the kindergarten - 322 families who <br /> signed have no children. A room in our grade schools would <br /> be necessary, and equipment necessary to start. This would <br /> require in the neighborhood of bet Jeen $400.00 and 1500.00 <br /> for each school. The salary of the teachers woulI be at <br /> the rate of 11,800.00. In this particular budget only <br /> 11,800.00 has been included as it would be only four months <br /> next year; subsequent years the salary of the teachers would <br /> amount to 15,400.00. Transportation for the children for <br /> the kindergarten in the year 1945 would amount to approximately <br /> 1, 560.00, and the year of 1946, $3,900.00. <br /> $300.00 additional has been asked for a maintenance <br /> man this year. This is for salary for the Town Painter. <br /> An additional amount has been asked for coaching. <br /> In this budget they have asked for clerical assistance for <br /> the Principals in the Elementary Schools as the School <br /> Committee states that the Principals have too much work to <br /> do and really need additional help. Additional money is <br /> asked for a physical education teacher. Such a teacher is <br /> to do most of the work in the Flementary Schools. <br /> School Maintenance - Expenses. Under the item of <br /> supplies, 1500.00 more is asked Which is for the purchase of <br /> new typewriters. <br /> Teachers ' Tuition & Agency Fees is higher this year. <br /> Fuel costs are up a little over last year due to <br /> the fact that sufficient coal could not be purchased for the <br /> present year. <br /> Item of Repairs - higher this year. This has been <br /> explained in detail on the explanation sheet. <br /> Uiscellaneous Item - up 1400.00 this year. This is <br /> for additional equipment in the High School. <br />
